Or maybe he's just establishing himself. I mean, he is only 24. I really don't understand why this board is so resistant to the idea that young players improve.
I just personally don’t value his archetype at all, the no defense no create shooting guards. Are you talking about basically jalen for herro? Ya if he’s a legit 45% 3 pt shooter ok, but history says he’s not
I for one believe young players can improve, but I don't assume they will improve significantly. I tend to be leery of banking on improvement once a young player is making serious money after their rookie contract is up. I've not seen the Heat play this year, but the stats suggests Herro doesn't care a lick about defense. Also, is Butler done?
As Houston chases a playoff spot this season, making a trade to bolster their backcourt makes sense. Bleacher Report's Dan Favale proposed a trade on Oct. 27 with the Philadelphia 76ers that would send Jae'Sean Tate and Tari Eason to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for Reggie Jackson, KJ Martin, and a 2028 first-round pick via the Los Angeles Clippers. "Tough choices await the Rockets," Bleacher Report's Dan Favale wrote Sunday. "They already committed big money to Jalen Green and Alperen Şengün, and Jabari Smith Jr. becomes extension eligible next summer as well. Their somebody-has-to-go decisions needn't be made in-season, but they aren't going to keep all of Smith, Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore long term."
I don't see Tari in trades right now. Not sure if this is just a hot streak or if Tari is making a step forward.
For real. That would be a horrible trade. Jabari has been poor but I wouldn’t even trade him for that. I’m not a fan of Reggie Jackson and kj and amen would be a step back for sure.
I saw that drivel when it was posted... I read Tate & Landale for some reason the first time and was like why would Philly give up a 1st. When I reread it, I was like Favale might need to go to an NA meeting
I know everyone is gonna say nothing, which isn’t the right answer… …But the Rockets seriously need to start asking themselves internally what Jabari can can get on the trade market. Maybe some rebuilding team in the East would give up a juicy asset for him
So, this may sound crazy, but hear me out. The Bucks are faltering, but I doubt they will trade Giannis anytime soon. But, what about Dame? FVV, Bari, Whitmore, and non-Suns draft capital for Dame and Bobby Portis. Dame gives us a true complementary scoring option next to Sengun, and we don't have trade away any of our major young, core pieces or the Suns' draft picks. Portis is a solid rotational forward. I think this trade propels us into the upper tier of the West for the next couple of seasons, acting as a bridge to our young prospects primes. Conversely, FVV keeps the Bucks afloat this season, they get much younger, finally have some young prospects, AND, if they opt of out FVV's contract, they will have cap space next summer with Brooks' contract coming off the books. Basically, sell it to Giannis as a way to retool to remain competitive throughout his prime.
As for trade rumblings, the status quo remains. We know the Rockets are angling for a sizable trade at some point. Whether that will be this season, the offseason, or next season is still to be determined. For those that fall under the more patient side of the equation, the offseason would seem to be the most favorable option. It is only year two of the current configuration, the organization’s most familiar faces, Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun, just locked into extensions, and there’s plenty room for growth for the drafted players to be made that can't reasonably be expected to materialize in the immediate. On the opposite side of the spectrum, this is the NBA we’re talking about. It’s where anything can happen and where patience runs thin, quickly. If and when the next star becomes available, the Rockets will be at the forefront of trade talks as they are as well-equipped to pull off a blockbuster as any other top suitor is right now. However, that doesn’t mean the Rockets have to say yes to the first player that becomes available as All Stars aren’t built equally. So on one end, the timing of such a deal will depend on the level of talent, but in the meantime, Houston will continue to evaluate. The team is talented no doubt, but that doesn't mean everyone is a keeper. At this point, is it fair to say that the Rockets don't have a bonafide player that is off the table in any trade discussions? Amen Thompson would be the closet player to qualify to such a designation, but let’s see how the next few months play out. Therefore, the earliest that the Rockets should consider making any trade of significance is...the offseason. For one, Rafael Stone gets an extended view of how sustainable building around the current group will be, and who knows, that may show that improvements only need to be made around the edges rather than at the core of the team. Additionally, waiting until the offseason gives Houston, along with other trade partners, a cleaner hand to deal with. All cards will be on the table, meaning that even JG and Alpy could be the centerpiece of any outgoing deal. With poison pill provisions in place, attempting to make a trade sooner than later comes with more complications.
We could and should trade for Giannis. A trade of Jalen, Jabari, one more of our young guys (Amen or Whitmore) and expiring salary filler (Jeff Green , Landale, Tate), and then all of the draft capital we have from the Suns and Nets -- that is a legal trade financially (due to the size of the trade, and us being 10 mill below the tax, allows us to overcome the Poison Pill issue in Jalen's contract). We come away from the trade as a contender THIS YEAR with a starting lineup of: Sengun Giannis Eason Dillon Fred with a bench that, worst case scenario, is Reed, Whitmore, Adams, Tate, and Holiday. That's not a title favorite, but we'd have a chance in my opinion. Spacing is an issue, but not anymore of one than our current team -- and just simply having Giannis replace the usage of Jalen and Jabari, and eat into the usage of Fred, would improve our offense a lot. And our defense, which is already great, would probably become the best in the league.
Can’t trade Jalen or Sengun towards Giannis this season. The poison pill provision makes it nearly impossible. The package would have to be centered around Amen to get it done by the deadline.
You can trade them if the money works. Because of how far below we are under the tax (10 mill) and how close Jalen's current salary is to the Poison Pill (PPP) incoming value, the trade works financially. Sengun would be a lot harder, because the delta between his current value and the PPP value is a lot bigger, but since Jalen's current contract is as high as it is, the PPP value delta is small enough where this works. I checked it on Spotrac
You’re going to have to explain this to me in more detail. Green counts as 12.5 mil outgoing for us and like 30 mil for the Bucks. So, let’s say we trade Green, Bari, and Whitmore for Giannis. We’d be sending out 25 mil and taking in 48 mil, sending us way above the first apron.
I've played around with this a while and this is the only Giannis trade it think might work. I just don't buy that we can get around the PPP. I also don't think the Bucks will want FVV as they'd probably want to hold on to Dame and hope to add pieces around him. They can't really tank, after all. If, however, they are looking to also trade Dame, then replacing Brooks with FVV makes things a little easier. Brooks, Amen, Bari, Whitmore, and draft capital for Giannis. The money works. I'm just not sure it's enough. I'm also not sure how it works with regard to their roster. It would destroy our depth, but FVV / Green / Eason / Giannis / Sengun with Sheppard first off the bench is interesting. Frankly, I'm not sure I'd do it, but it is interesting to consider. If you do FVV instead, perhaps the trade could look something like FVV, Amen, Bari, Whitmore, and draft capital for Giannis, Bobby Portis, and Connaughton, broken up into separate transaction to avoid the second apron aggregation rules.
I agree... I am not seeing the viability of your proposed trade this year Now...if Bucks decide to blow it up and restart FVV + Bari + Cam + Villain + Adams + Tate + almost all the draft capital for Dame + Giannis + Beauchamp works Dame - Holiday Thrilla - R33D Tari - Amen Giannis - Unc Jeff Sengun - Landale very win now roster
I am for trading for a star. I'd probably not trade 3 of the young core and all tradeable FRPs for Giannis. Some team is going to do a ridiculous trade for a star, it not work out, and not get bailed out.
I don't think there is a chance of happening right AT ALL. Because of the poison pill and because the Suns have a good record. You are coming in at a disadvantage with your assets. You need to wait until the PP is null and the Suns are losing and/or injured. The injured part is inevitable the losing. The losing should follow. Durant is already being "reevaluted in 2 weeks" now.
