We are who we are: a mediocre football team with a solid defense. We’ve got three games we should win – the Titans twice and the Jaguars. Then there are the toss-ups: the Cowboys and the Dolphins. And finally, we’re looking at two beatdowns waiting to happen against the Ravens and the Chiefs. At best, this team might scrape by with 11 wins and face an early playoff exit. But if you take a step back and look at it from a growth perspective, having back-to-back division wins and playoff appearances in CJ’s first two years, despite the team not being a real contender, is a strong foundation. It’s something to build on, even with the sophomore struggles. After last night, I’ve reset my expectations for the season. Winning the division and making the playoffs, despite the glaring deficiencies, will be an achievement I’d be happy with. Come the offseason, Bobby needs to go, Strauser needs to go, and Nick has to prioritize what really matters. Priority one: protect the quarterback. Priority two: score points effectively. It's astonishing that Antonio Pierce, even without a quarterback of CJ Stroud’s caliber, had the insight to recognize the Raiders' offensive failures and make significant midseason changes. On the other hand, DeMeco seems to have a Gary Kubiak-like tendency, where his unwavering loyalty to underperforming staff could ultimately undermine his efforts.
I would agree with this, were still a year out and need some help via the draft and FA. I put to much stock into the were a "Super Bowl Caliber Team", were not, but were on the right path. Moving Patterson to center was a positive, Juice was not effective at communicating "yet". There is no denying Bobby S is not the right fit, he has to go, CJ is regressing at times and that`s no bueno. Our O line still is mediocre but better but can't run block to save their lives....or Joe`s. How do you lose when you have 5 interceptions, the answer is you dont, this was a major failure and that falls on Demeco. I personally thought we had ZERO chance, but they proved my wrong in the first half and proved me right in the second half. If we're not going to make adjustments in the second half we have no shot and that is THE reason Bobby has to go. If we had Nico and Will I think we win, but no one is 100% healthy so thats not an excuse................We have a great D and I think through the draft and FA we get even better next year but its not our time and Bobby is not the right OC.........................we will beat the Cowboys, win the division and then get maybe a win in the playoffs, but that's our ceiling right now.
Unpopular opinion - Kendrick Green over Juice at LG I liked Kendrick’s aggression previously, but I also remember 8 sacks. Think that was more about line calls
Both things can be true. No matter how putrid and pathetic the team imploded in the 2nd half they were robbed. That missed call dictated the outcome of the game and those exact plays should be reviewable and able to be overturned or called accordingly after video evidence. It shouldnt stop the Slowik circle jerk or holding CJ accountable.
I agree with Stros. It wasn't agregious, and the ball was tipped by the other defender, Anzalone, it wasn't going to be a completion. We are not talking about this if Fairbairn makes the FG. In that situation the refs decided to let players decide the outcome, rather than throw a late flag. Trust me, had it been the Texans on D you would have complained about the flag being thrown. Let the players play. Good game, enjoyed it. Sure, I'd have been fine with the Lions losing, but I do always want NFC North to be as powerful as possible. Teams in the North respect every team, but fear no one. The Lions have 4 NFC North games left, and the Niners and Bills mixed in there also. The stretch run in the North will be good for NFL, and all NFL fans. Let's do this!
You’re not wrong that it was a bad call, but every game has that. I’m happy to b**** about the refs when it’s a close game all the way and one team gets screwed. But when you choke like that, let another team back in it, you can miss me with the refs nonsense. Still had the opportunity to go win the game and convert a 4th down but the beta mindset lets kick this fg and go play defense fellas! Gimme some juice babyyyyyy
Our defense is ballin' out. I listened to a twitter post game show saying all Ward does is make 1 play and injure our guys, training camp included. I lol'd Shame we couldn't get them the win for their effort. People wouldn't stop talking about Goff's completion % and the Defense made him look like a rook. Unlike Allen, he had his 2 best receivers available.
This team is so frustrating to watch. I'm so tired of getting all excited simply to blow it at the end. I thought we would look better this year after our injury riddled offensive line problems last year. Nope. Last night was the most gut wrenching game to watch so far. From a complete high to a second half collapse starting from the very first play. When Stroud threw that interception I was thinking "Here we go, we're going to blow this game now." This team ranks 6th in offensive points 1st half, and 26th in the second half. This team ranks 4th in defensive points allowed 1st half and 26th in defensive points allowed in the second half. We are a first half team. Period! All the excuses in the world don't justify that. Nope. We make it look so damn hard to throw a TD when we get close. It's been that way all year. When our opponents get close it's a different story. We rank 31st in the league on defending opponents passing touchdowns, and nobody has a higher passing TD% against any other team than us. That's a fact. Our offense AND defense collapse in the second half. I'm pretty sure the majority of Texans fans would be very happy to see Slowik fired this week. I would. I'm sick of his stupid play calls. That being said, the blame can be shared around the whole team including Stroud. Even when Tank, Nico, and Diggs were healthy we barely beat some mediocre to bad teams, and got blown out by the Vikings. Out of the 28 quarterbacks with 1,000 yards or more he ranks 24th in completion percentage and is 20th in passing touchdowns made this season. Fire Slowik. Hell, I bet Case Keenum could draw up better plays. He knows what works and doesn't, having been stuck out there himself under that offensive line. That being said, DeMeco is our coach, and he needs to do better. We can't keep playing hard for half a game, then easing up and watching everything turn around before our eyes and cross our fingers.
I get it. I understand all the emotions that come attached to a close loss. I agree with all of you who say we have plenty of things to address internally, but that was as bad as it gets. 2 minutes left. Tie game. Refs dictate outcome? Terrible. Its not just me --- go take a stroll through the football ecosphere. There is no way you miss something that blatant and then have no recourse to get the call right.
The players can't do anything about their **** coaching. You can have a bunch of dogs but with a dogsh*t gameplan and you'll get nowhere. Fire Slowik
We tend to part ways with assistants too soon, not coordinators, we let bad coordinators overstay their welcome, well besides Godsey lol. Think about it—Bobby could be standing in the way of someone like Mike McDaniel or Matt LaFleur. I truly hope Bobby gets better, but if he doesn’t and DeMeco decides to bring him back next season, it could end up being a repeat of the Kubiak - Richard Smith/Frank Bush saga
I finally got back into my old account, so I'm reposting this under my original account. I couldn't delete the post under my temp account. This team is so frustrating to watch.
