Not bashing folks for speaking their opinions, but why not let the core become a "core" a few years before we start annointing particular player.. i think Ime has done a great job starting from scratch. Yeah there's stars that are young but until they win one, there's no point in constantly bringing them up in comparisons to bash our guys .. .I'm sure Boston fans thought Tatum wasn't that dude about 3 years ago .. but to answer your question.. I see Jalen as the star in with Sengun being the "guy' that makes us a legitimate contender
I think Jalen has the potential. I see it in his passing, his defense and occasionally in his scoring. I think the Rockets need another explosive athlete in the starting unit. Alpi, FVV, Brooks and Jabari all can score but they are not special, as you say. If they can not make a trade, I think they need to start grooming Cam Whitmore to play along side Jalen. To me, Cam and Amen are the keys moving forward. Cam needs to get back on track and Amen needs to continue working on his shot
Rockets just have a bunch of good players. Not sure how long the front office will wait until a star from the core will come. Tillman seems like the type of owner that wants to win now and not willing to wait years and years.
I’m gonna say something controversial, but that I honestly believe is true. Tari has as much of a chance to be a star as anyone in the team. No one thought Kawhi was gonna be a superstar until several years into is time in the NBA. I’m not saying Tari is gonna be Kawhi, but there’s no reason he can’t approach that. He’s shooting 40% from 3 right now. I think Tari and Amen are absolute keepers, and budding stars. But I don’t think we have any super stars.
No one on this roster can become a true superstar (top 5ish player in the league). Call me a hater but it's true. Now what I do believe is that 1-7 we could have a very strong and deep team. One akin to the Pistons team (as an upside target). I do worry that Ime is stunting the offensive development of our players. I think Sengun is clearly regressing due to mis-use and we all can see what has become of Jabari... Not that I want to fire Ime but I hope he can develop as a coach as well and surround himself with someone that can tell him how to run an effective inbounds play from under the basket. It's clear as a pigs belly in the sun that we need some fresh ideas and I really want to see our players get some easier looks. Against good teams, our crashing the glass strategy isn't going to work.
To get there, Sengun and Reed has to be more selfish…tap into that mamba/dream mentality. It’s just not who they are at the moment. So no, there are no true stars on the roster. J Will is the only true star I see on OKC.
Of our core 7 I’d trade Bari before the rest. I do think it will eventually click for him, but I don’t see him ever becoming the shooter we drafted him to be. He just has no touch on his shot and we are 3 yrs in. His next team will reap the rewards of his development, but I’d try to recoup some value instead of extending another guy we know isn’t gonna be a star. He should still be able to fetch a late lotto pick.
I think if Jalen puts it all together he could be that guy. Then I'll say Amen next because of his tools.
Sengun is that guy. He has been in a weird shooting slump to start the season, but he will fix it and will dominate. Ime should play through him more. We are still trying to be too balanced, and Sengun is too unselfish.
Amen. Period end of story. Reed and Sengun have a few All Star selections in them probably but Amen is the only player capable of being a Top 10 player. His offensive game is coming along this year as well. Right now if you drafted between OKC and the Rockets....3 OKC players would go 1, 2 and 3.
Sengoon has the all world appeal as a star world wide off the court........and he is one of the best Offensive Centers. This year with Ime's help he defended better in spurts than Rudy Gobert who is struggling to be fair. And Rudy is a known multiple DPOY.
