The biggest problem for the "democracy coalition" is that they were tied to leftist social policies that most Americans either don't care about or are repulsed by. I made posts in this BBS before 2016 showing polling that a big portion of Americans didn't have an issue with autocratic rule and a growing percentage actually favored it. Democracy as a concept really doesn't mean anything to most Americans. They'd be fine with Orban style or Putin style democracy where there are "votes" but no real democracy as long as the nation is safe and there isn't economic disruption. Trying to save democracy by teaming up with people who want to die on the hill of trans athletes or college students attacking Jewish students or burning down their schools or refusing to say what a woman is or saying "birthing people" or whatever is just insane. It's just absolutely insane and it's a damn shame that it ended up being that way.
This post is indicative of how effective right wing culture wars was. They literally brainwashed people to believe that the trans issue wasn't something the right inorganically spammed into existence using things like social media campaigns, liberals and leftists see an odd rise in targeted hate rhetoric towards trans people, and then these people conclude its the democrats who bring up the issue unnecessarily. It's frightening how right wing social media campaigns like this are so effective in altering entire world paradigms for people. Bro, you can feel superior to me as much as you want, but I have sat in a business meeting and been corrected for saying "male" instead of "cis." I've had to help clients adjust software to accommodate gender preferences and biological gender as separate fields. I've had to endure chastisement for asking a client to fill out a form that asked their gender. And while trans issues specifically only impact a small % of human beings in this country, pretending like only right wing social media amplified an issue completely ignores the reality of the coverage of trans athletes.
Trump is a fascist grifter. He's not going to stick it to any elites, he's in bed with them. Right wing social media created a moral panic about trans issues. This is something that is blatantly obvious and is often a common tactic with right wing politics. Find something esoteric and only in niche academic fields like CRT or discussions about gender sciences and pronouns and reduce these esoteric concepts to its most bad faith interpretation like "learning to hate white people" and spam this narrative that these niche esoteric ideas are being forced on to you when reality is the right wing is forcing this issue on you by inundating your social media feed with the issue. Democrat politicians do not run on trans politics. They only bring up the issue when a interviewer specifically brings up the issue or if there is some anti-trans bill for showmanship purposes to appease the right wing base and a democrat politician might bring up why waste time on such a irrelevant issue.

I think the trans ads didn’t move a single voter it just reinforced peoples anxiety or bigotry around the issue they already had. So it probably drove some early votes for the R’s that were already voting but I just don’t think it’s something an undecided voter is making their decision on to the extent there were true undecideds which imo were mostly liberals at heart that were angry at the Dems for whatever reason and reasoning in their heads what to do. I just keep coming back to cultural changes being the core issue coming out of Covid and men especially being in a transitional period of insecurity that made Trump more popular. Then on economics it just comes down to Americans being a very uneducated and misguided country of people who are simple minded. Trust me I want to blame Dems too because then that means the problem is more controllable for the future and we can do something about it. When you feel sort of powerless and realize they did about as good as they could have done it actually feels worse. It just is where we are as a country. Ill informed, and bigoted AF.
Exactly how liberals act in real life, if you say something they disagree with, it automatically turns into a sh.it show. While the worst it ever gets with Republicans is "you have the right to think w/e you want, and so do I". But y'all are supposed to be tolerant, equality etc. While ya can't even tolerate a political difference of an opinion. Right wing may have amplified it, but white liberals insisting on saying "cis-male" isn't something that right wing media made up. And a democratic politician could easily say "yeah of course I know the difference between a woman and a man." They choose not to because of the backlash they'll take online from the liberal activists. Right wing media may be setting a trap by amplifying these issues, but democrats can't help themselves.
