We can probably get the other Thompson twin for Cam. He’s kind of out of favor there and now he dealing with recovering from blood cots. His offense aint nothin good but our defense would be elite adding him to the squad
Why in the world would the Rockets trade a second year player who has some potential "while he still has value"? Makes no sense at all. Get over the hopelessness. Cam will have opportunities. LOL, you sound like a Sengunatic from last year. The season is only 8 games old.
I think Ime is hammering down his rotation. They talked about it last night that he’s going with 9 man rotation and barring injury, Cam is out the rotation. There’s team is developing an identity as a gritty defensive team and Can doesn’t fit that identity in Imes eyes. Everybody gets minutes, is a defensive +. We can supplement that with a trade. I seen this before. Monk Williams went through it in Charlotte. He didnt fit the mold of that team and Charlotte just held him and glued him to the bench until his contract expired instead of trying to get some value for him. He leaves and breaks out. They got nothing out of hin
He needs more playing time to sort this out, not less. But he hasn't been playing well. He averaged almost 19 minutes a game last year and is now at about 11. Drafting Reed really hurt his place in our rotation. He needs his three pointer to be at least 34% but has a long way to go. Cam is 3 years younger than Tari, 2 1/2 years younger than Jalen, two years younger than Sengun, and a year younger than Jabari or Reed. He needs time, patience, and coaching.
Ime don’t have the time and patience to develop him while he’s trying to lift this team to the next step of their development as a championship contender
...this team still needs either a consolidation trade or one of Brooks or FVV to play less minutes or even step aside because we can't continue to pay those guys anyway. I think Cam just needs to focus on raising his defensive intensity and be ready - he will get his turn. At some point either someone is going to get injured or we will give guys some rest and Cam can start to carve out minutes then. I think like everyone else here - Cam has to learn that defensive intensity is worth more to Udoka than offensive intensity. He sits Jalen and Alpi when they lack that - he isn't make an exception for Cam and that's why he isn't seeing the minutes he normally expects.
What do you think the Rockets will get for trading Cam? It won't be anything more than a 2nd round draft pick. They may as well keep him a couple more years. To get playing time, Cam has to provide value on the floor. Because his defense is nothing special, it's gotta be on offense. 1/18 is his main problem.
He’s shown flashes, but so far this year: no shooting, no defense, no passing, and no play making. That won’t get you playing time. Honestly, Tate has been better than Whitmore so far this year, and he’s not getting playing time either. NBA history is littered with talented guys who couldn’t figure it out. Hope something clicks for Whitmore before it’s too late.
He’s not on the floor for playmaking and when he gets the ball, it’s not like set are being ran. Nobody’s moving. When he gets the ball. When cam doesn’t have the ball, he’s moving off ball. Nobody’s moving off ball when Cam gets the ball. When they ran the pnr action with him, the offense opened up. But they dont do those type of things with Cam. The spacing is terrible in this offense. He’s not left with a lot of options on the floor. Dillon plays just as selfishly as ppl perceive Cam to play. Often he’s a black hole When he gets the ball.
Cam is 1-18 from 3 point line this year - even if all you say is true, he has to make more shots than that to get on the floor.
Lol all our pnr sets are stationary two man actions between the ball handler and screener and no one else is involved besides standing around. In fact Cam has an easier time with the rare times he runs a pnr set because defenses aren't really worried about loading up on the action like when Fred or Jalen run the set. Probably why Cam won't generate many looks for teammates in a pnr action with him as the ball handler because defenses don't load up because they don't fear Cam as a ball handler in a half court set so the corner or wing three aren't as open as when the main ball handlers do it on the team. Cam gets plenty of good looks though through attacking closeouts from guys like Fred, Jalen or Sengun collapsing defenses.
This is not what I have seen. When Cam drives off a PnR, isolation, dribble handoff, it seems the opposing team does not fear the pass and loads up on the drive. His shot has been off and his PT has been nothing during the season. In the preseason, he was actually doing well passing off of drives when the defense collapsed or tried to help at the nail. The more dribbles Cam makes, the more the defense knows he's likely not going to pass it.
The more dribbles Cam makes in a half court set the more the defenses believe they can strip the ball from him. Again he simply does not have the level of handle to be someone who runs ~10 pnr primary ball handler possessions per game. He has the handles of a wing, not a ball handling guard dealing with full court press coverage and multiple defenders in tight half court sets trying to disrupt your handle How many times per game when Cam plays significant time where he stops his dribble after a screen is set and a second defender that fights the screen attempts to disrupt his handle? Again he's a play finisher right now.
Reuniting the Thompson brothers would be sick. If nothing else other than to increase Amens power levels.
Eh we run into redundancy issues especially with Tari also still on the team. Cam at least provides a spacing threat even with his severe flaws at the moment.
I know the general knock on Tari is that teams dont respect his shot and I have repeated the same...but I gotta think that's starting to change because Tari is knocking them down so far this year. At some point we have to admit the dude can hit shots even if the form still looks a little clunky. He's got 8 games this year with an EFG% of 61.8% which is in the 87th percentile of forwards this year and is hitting 40% of his 3s. ...FWIW, I like the idea of pairing the Thompson twins up...but maybe not at the expense of Cam. I think people are a little too doom and gloom on Cam right now - he has a role on this team long term because the days of Brooks and Fred playing so many minutes are limited.
When I mean redundant I was more referring to elite switchable long athletic defenders type. But I guess you really can't have too much of that? I guess it makes sense due to the nature of switchability means you can't have a redundant amount of long athletic switchable defenders. I don't have Tari in the non-shooter category on the team. He isn't one of the negative floor spacers on the team.
8 games and people are already giving up on him?!? After what he showed last year too? I know the Rockets aren’t that stupid. If that’s the case, throw in Sheppard to sweeten the deal. He hasn’t exactly been the shooter we were all led to believe… yet.
