Like almost every other President - Trump isn't going to bring any wonderful economy - as he will have very little to do with it. For the most part President's can far more easily hurt it than help it. Trump will pump his fist - deport some people - try to get further tax changes to benefit wealthy people - and he will likely deal with bitter criticism and at some point have a large part of the American people hate him..... even in the post election polls yesterday, only like 40% of people had a positive opinion of him. Lots of things will be promised - some will come to fruition but the vast majority will not happen, in part because it is hard to pass everything, and in part because Trump says he will do things that just are not possible or are stupid. I am still waiting for the Wall and for Mexico to pay for it...... waiting on those manufacturing jobs he promised in 2016 - full repeal of ObamaCare - and taking the oil from ISIS..... now I am to believe he is going to deport 10-20 million people at the cost of a trillion dollars - build an iron dome over the US Southern Border..... end birth right citizenship... Add a 60% tariff on all good from China (LOL) .... hold China financially responsible for COVID......... and INCREASE defense military spending to the highest ever.
I don't know where you're going with this. I said Republicans lack empathy, you tried arguing me on that, and then you ended up proving that I was right.
TBH, I don't have a lot of empathy for people with 1st world problems. Ya acting like an invading country are leveling our cities
Easy to dismiss someone else's concerns when you are not them. Another +1 to my republicans lacking empathy factual statement.
Saying that you are going to use the military and National Guard to raid and round up 20,000,000 people in the USA and deport them - when many of them have been in the USA for a long time and have spouses and children born in the USA - that is controversial and incredibly stupid. There will be violence, there will be widespread opposition and the country will be even more divided. Also - ending birthright citizenship is also very controversial. Trump has said that he would do all of these things - and all over them are controversial - and incredibly expensive, with a cost of a trillion dollars. Well at least you are not claiming that they do NOT feel endangered. Seeing as you are not transgendered, I am not sure how you are in a position to declare whether they should or should not feel endangered. Right - unless you want an abortion, or you are transgendered and want to use the restroom of your gender - and any number of other examples. No - it is a matter of you being oblivious or ignorant. You are no better than the other side - you are not on the "right side" and you are not some wonderful bastion of common sense and morality. You are ever bit as impractical, restrictive and judgmental.
I've never been more ashamed of my fellow Americans. I gave up hope a long time ago for this Country to live up to its EGO. As a middle aged white guy I don't have to fight for myself but I'll continue to fight for Liberty and Justice for ALL.
i remember when he helped amplify asian hate crimes. should we go down that path again through his china trade war i hope you and all stay safe.
good thread @rocketsjudoka but I’m tired fam I don’t even feel like voting anymore and feel like just checking out of politics with that said, Jon Stewart 2028
If you are here illegally, you knew the risk. My dad immigrated here the right way, the legal way, the hard way. Respect. If trans people feel endangered that's their issue to deal with, there are no boogeyman policies that endanger them. Trans men are not men, and do not belong in the restroom where little girls are. It's lunacy that does not need to be indulged. Deal with it. The abortion issue is pointless to debate, one side thinks abortion is murder and the other side doesn't. That will never change. There is no abortion ban, if somebody wants an abortion, I promise you they will be able to get one.
Trump will not finish his term. If his age and poor eating habits do not catch up to him, he will get bored, declare victory, and retire to Mar-a-Lago as a right wing hero. J.D. Vance will eventually be president. While he could end up being both more dangerous and worse than Trump, as he is both disciplined and highly intelligent, there is at least a chance he becomes a country club Republican. He could reinvent himself once against as he has absolutely no core beliefs or principles other than the pursuit of power. And I can't think of a better person for Democrats to run against in 2028 than J.D. Vance.
I haven’t had time to read through all of this thread. But to follow up I’ve said before how the first Trump administration wasn’t all fine. I did economically fine but I’m doing better now. My family though was directly affected by Trump’s immigration policies, or more precisely the chaos he caused regarding immigration. Trump did undercut state and local efforts regarding disasters and his divisive rhetoric inflamed the protests following the murder of George Floyd that did directly affect me. That is in top of the corruption such as using government to financially benefit his and his family’s business and having to shut down his foundation while President because it was defrauding veterans. Also as I said in my original posts our political leaders should have decency and honor. Many of Trump’s own supporters will say he has neither. Obviously there’s not much I can do now to change the national political situation for at least the next two years. What I can do though is work at the local level. I can continue to help organizations and causes. Just on another thread offered to teach martial arts to any LGBT and trans youth. My own state has enshrined the right to abortion while several of the neighboring states have some of the most restrictive regulations against. I can help organizations get women in those states access. As an architect I can continue to design and advocate for practices that are more energy and resource efficient. While also giving time, money and expertise to disaster response. I was already doing many of these things but it’s more important now when the next administration is going to be more ideological, facing major cutbacks, and staffed with less experienced people.
His name was Bernie. It's too bad politicians were already working for billionaires, so that won't work until things get really bad.
Also look at the states Harris won and the states with the highest percentage of folks with college degrees. Democrats need to find a way to get the message out to folks without advanced education which is still less than 50%.
I think the Democratic pivot in 2028 is to nominate someone who has zero or near zero political background. Someone who talks like a normal person and not an AI that works in human resources for the state department. The trick will be that most Democratic voters hate that and will clutch pearls and wet their diapers too easily when that person says some hard truths, if somewhat inarticulately.
The hard way? You think walking thousands of miles with little to no food or water dealing coyotes and human traffickers is the easy way? We've already seen examples of people who wanted and need an abortion couldn't one and have died. Others lost their ability to conceive because they couldn't get an abortion. The guy that was just elected refused to give support to vetoing a national abortion ban.
