He could still be 48. Cut throat Kamala could send Biden to the gulag like she did with all of those truancy parents. Get herself 1 last win before she fades off into oblivion.

    Two thoughts.

    1) I don't think it's populism vs. establishment. Look up some populist policies and tell me which ones you think Trump or the right are keen on, it ain't much if any. I've best heard Trump called a popularist, which I think is fitting. The main division I see is institutions/federalism. The right is leaning heavily away from institutions whereas the left is basically married to them at this point.

    2) Does the pope **** in the woods? C'mon dude. Christianity, queers, CRT, immigrants, etc. Don't tell me you sincerely missed all that the last 8 years.

    That's not wild at all.

2020's turnout was absolutely off the charts.

    Anti-immigrant is definitely populism.

Aside from Trump likely winning every swing state, he even cut the margin in Illinois and Virginia by half compared to 2020.

    2020:
    IL +17 Blue
    VA +10 Blue

    2024:
    IL +8 Blue
    VA +5 Blue

    Just insane.

I will give you that the Democrats are headed towards a lot of infighting.

This result will absolutely re-ignite whatever civil war wounds were left from 2016.

But 'fractured'? Not yet. They have a lot of thinking to do and questions to ask.

The fighting is yet to come. The 2028 primary will be quite intense I bet.

Let the free loading Europeans and other OECD countries pay for and take care of the worlds problems.

USA has been subsidizing these bums and been taken for granted far too long.

They need to tear it down.

The political parties are rapidly changing - and the Democrats need to decide what they will be going forward.

We all know about the flaws and terrible things that the Republicans and Trump have done over the last nearly 10 years.

However the Democrats need to own up to what they have done - they allowed an 82 year old man that was physically no longer able to effectively communicate seek the nomination with no real contest, they let him go on television around the work and be seen as unable to lead because of age and associated physical limitations.

They then - with basically no time - had to had pick Harris with the voters having no input, and Harris was unable to properly plan or gather the staff that normally happens when you have primaries.

They basically did nothing on immigration - they let it be the lead story on the news for a very long time - before they realized it was pissing off the average American. They also just assumed that they still understood and spoke for blue collar America and the common man, and that is slipping away.

This stuff is all cyclical - the Democrats will be in a position of power again, but they need to learn from their mistakes. The Republicans will overstep - likely on tariffs or social issues and get popped in the face and it will all go round and round.

I give them a pass on immigration because they did put forward a bill that was going to pass and Trump said to kill it because immigration is more valuable to Republicans left as an open problem/question than it is a settled issue.

This is what duopoly politics gets you. It's also why Democrats never codified RvW, or any number of other issues they could have stepped on.

I don't care if they put forward a bill. They know how Trump plays politics. They had tools at their disposal that Biden did not use until too late. There was a lack of survival instinct and lack of being in touch with the American people. There were migrants all over places like NYC and Chicago and other places in the suburbs. The Democrats played right into the hand of the Republicans by being sanctimonious about it - and then doing literally nothing until they realized it could cost them the election.
