I still drink Red Bull but we forgot that Thailand invented it and not Mateschitz, he just got that deal to market it world wide.

Trying to find him is the wrong way to go about it. Really just hoping for someone to bring the passion back on and off the field. I just want to see some semblance of a plan that doesn’t involve throwing more money at it.

Even from a business standpoint you have to admit that teams like Leipzig hurt the product Bundesliga with their low attendance records, low TV/streaming numbers and zero appeal for international fans.

ESPN's Bundesliga reporter summarised it pretty well.

I respect your opinion. (Also, I like Archie - because I live in the US now, I watch the games on ESPN and I much prefer it to the German commentary in general. Except for that screaming Mexican guy at halftime.)

Reality, however, is that any business that is mismanaged eventually gets replaced by businesses which are managed better.

I was "auf Schalke" many times and the atmosphere was great. But Schalke, HSV, Köln, Hertha and some others...most of their misery is self-inflicted. I don't see how one can say "ok, Leipzig should not be allowed to displace them because they are a "Traditionsverein"" - many of these teams were and are run by absolute morons. Ultimately, it's of course part of culture, but it's also a business. To be honest, the teams which allowed the "Ultras" to have a say did the worst.

It's also not like it has to be a one-way street. Put better management in, like Stuttgart did, and you can work your way back up.

And in terms of attendance, Leipzig is top 5 - top 7 btw, almost always sold out, about 45k spectators on average (capacity is 47k).

In terms of quality of football, I prefer watching Leipzig to watching Gladbach or Werder at the moment for sure.

That's a whole different story. All the likes of Schalke, HSV, Hertha, Köln, etc. had it coming and don't deserve a Bundesliga spot. When it comes to Leipzig though, I'm not saying they should not be allowed due to lack of tradition. They should'nt be allowed due to reasons named above (breaking 50+1, bypassing transfer rules, abusing football for advertising performances, ...).

These numbers are fake because they only sell ticket packages. Meaning, if you want to see Bayern or Dortmund, you have to buy tickets for four or five other games as well. So some rich assholes buy these packages and then don't show up to the games against the smaller clubs. Of course they are "selling out", but they are not filling their stadium. Or does that look like 45k to you?

(thousand more examples if you're following this account)

And that's what I mean by negative for the product Bundesliga. You couldn't send them to an offseason trip to you in Florida or somewhere else in the world, because no one would show up for the game.

I wonder who's more hated in their country. Them or MK Dons in England. Largely for similar reasons but definitely not for similar successes.

Only looked at the first video, but it looked pretty full to me, except for the seats in front of the sponsor lounge...having spent countless hours in those types of seats and those lounges, these seats often only fill shortly after the game started.

I honestly haven't heard of MK Dons before, so I can't really tell. But to give you another insight: Teams in Germany refuse to play friendlies against Leipzig or have cancelled friendlies due to pressure from their own fanbase. One time a top tier club even refused an amateur club to play their DFB Cup first round match in their stadium because the amateur club would face RB (often enough amateur clubs switch to pro stadiums due to the opportunity to sell more tickets if they play a bigger team in the cup).

Trust me on that, the numbers in the tweets are pretty accurate. You often enough see it on TV, I have also spoken to multiple people that were on away trips in Leipzig. Their stadium is only full if a giant like Bayern comes to town.

Maybe it is just a minor gig, and Klopp only has to work couple hours a week.......:D

Sounded like those guest professor jobs and they don't really have to appear that often.

I find it interesteing because I played for a coach that played for Wimbledon FC in the 1980's. They were also more famously known as the club of Vinnie Jones and the Crazy Gang. They were absolutley vicious if you can find the highlights of them from the 80's and 90's.
