b-b-but Trump and his legion of mindless followers aren’t vile racists Luke Meyer, a regional field director working for Donald Trump's campaign in Pennsylvania since July, was fired last Friday by the state GOP following reporting by Politico that he hosts a white nationalist podcast under the pseudonym Alberto Barbarossa. As Barbarossa, Meyer co-hosts "Alexandria" with Richard Spencer, who organized the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. On the podcast, Meyer has espoused the view that whites should reclaim America's demographic makeup. “Why can’t we make New York, for example, white again? Why can’t we clear out and reclaim Miami?” Meyer asked while guest hosting a different podcast in June, according to Politico. “I’m not saying we need to be 100 percent homogeneous. I’m not saying we need to be North Korea or Japan or anything like that. A return to 80 percent, 90 percent white would probably be, probably the best we could hope for, to some degree.” But even after his firing, Meyer struck a defiant tone. “Like the hydra, you can cut off my head and hold it up for the world to see, but two more will quietly appear and be working in the shadows,” Meyer wrote to Moore. “Slating Trump to speak at [Madison Square Garden], putting ‘poisoning the blood’ in his speeches … In a few years, one of those groypers [white supremacists] might even quietly bring me back in, with a stern warning for me to ‘be more careful next time.'"

Jason Yates, former CEO of My Faith Votes, was charged during a video court hearing in the District Court of McLeod County, Minnesota. State officials allege that from February 2023 to July 2024, Yates possessed a hard drive with digital pornographic images of minors under 14 years of age. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension began investigating the 55-year-old Yates at the end of July after a relative, identified in court documents as “Witness #2,” accidentally discovered a hard drive containing over 100 images of child p*rn in Yates’ office, according to a statement of probable cause filed in the case. That relative told a second relative, identified as “Witness #1,” who turned the hard drive over to law enforcement. According to court documents, the hard drive allegedly contains both still images and videos of p*rnography involving minors under 14.
The economic recovery from the Great Recession that started under the Obama administration continued during the first three years of Trump’s presidency, benefiting Black as well as white Americans. In 2019, Black unemployment fell to 5.9 percent, a historic low. That same year, the poverty rate for all Americans plummeted to 10.5 percent, the lowest since 1959. The rate for Blacks, who comprised 13.2 percent of the population and 23.8 percent of America’s poor, however, remained stubbornly high at 18.8 percent, in part because the Trump administration tightened eligibility requirements for food stamps. Jobs held by Blacks were still concentrated in industries offering lower pay, inadequate health insurance and sick leave, and fewer opportunities to move up. Touted by the Trump administration, “Opportunity Zones” failed to benefit Blacks living in low income and undercapitalized neighborhoods, with most of the funds subsidizing high-end apartment buildings, hotels and student housing. And regulations issued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development made it more difficult for Blacks to prove discrimination in housing. Trump’s botched response to the pandemic fell disproportionately on Black Americans. Holding one out of every six “essential” front-line jobs (in health care, grocery, public transit and warehousing sectors), they were at higher risk of exposure and severe disease. 40 percent of Black-owned small businesses shuttered during the early months of the pandemic. In May 2020, Black unemployment reached 16.8 percent. As the Trump administration worked to undermine Obamacare — cutting in half the enrollment period, slashing the advertising budget for the ACA by 90 percent, ending federal appropriations to reduce deductibles and out-of-pocket medical expenses — the number of Americans without health insurance increased by 3 million between 2017 and 2020, many of them Black. Blacks were six times more likely than whites to be denied hospital treatment, and their death rate was twice that for whites.
