Ahhh.. There you go.. Trying to sidebar my entire thing I stated in the first place... DO talented players matter yes they help a lot or they the all in all.. NO there not.. If a super bowl was just based on talent along the Oilers would have 6 rings right now and not ZERO.. That also goes for the Buffalo Bills... A coaches job is too see what players he has for that game and use their strength against the opponents weakness.. Bobby should be calling plays where he has the advantage and not just calling plays in order of what he has written down. He has to put his team in a position to win, with the players you have on the field. The players also have to step up, again NEXT MAN UP!!!! I really don't know how old you are, but news flash Neither Mike or Kyle Shannahan or the original architectures of the offense.. If you want to see how affective the offense is go look at the 49ers back in the 80's. As much as you want to keep blaming the players, all of this falls back on the OC.. He has to step and do a better job. T_Man
To win a SB you also need leadership at key positions on the field. The Oilers were missing that. In addition to some of the worst coaching you will ever see. Thanks Pardee/Gilbride. Tell me with their top playmakers out what plays do they have an advantage. Teams play 8 in the box to stop tyhe run and then just blitz off of that because they know the Texans WR's cant consistently beat their CB's for chunk plays. I'mold enough to know Paul Brown is the HC that Walsh learned the WCO from, even though they didn't call Brown's offense the WCO.
Man you love to defect... Again, if it was all on talent the Oilers and Bills would have a lot of super bowl rings.. It's how it's being used... Let me simplify this for you... I am building a Dog House and I have the tools on the market.. Hammer, saw, etc.. But if im using my screw driver as my hammer then it's not the tools fault, it's the person who is using the tools... So on your talent thing.. If I were to look at Diggs this year compared to past years there is no way I would call him a star receiver... But again, how is Bobby using him??? T_Man
While I agree with this, we have to admit that if it was 32 runs and 28 passes, and we were losing like that, everyone here would be screaming about him running too much and not putting the ball in CJ’s hands more
Diggs was on pace for another 1,000 yd receiving season and 6-7 TD's. Was Bobby using him differently than he's been used in the past? Yes, but Diggs was still being used very effectively. He was still a star level rreceiver. Nico was leading the league. But nah, they dont miss those guys next man up.
Ahhh so now you are stating the truth about Gilbride and his coaching, but you want state the same about Bobby... Again, the plays that are being called take too long too develop, it's up to the coach to call better plays. I'm also glad you can google.. Next time read the entire thing... "The origins of the offensive system devised by Walsh go back to Paul Brown, coach of the Cleveland Browns and later the Cincinnati Bengals. Under Brown's tenure, Walsh was tasked with devising an offensive plan suited to Bengal quarterback Virgil Carter, who had an accurate but relatively weak arm. In response, Walsh created a system based on short, high-percentage passes, favoring straight and direct ten- to fifteen-yard strikes over forty- to fifty-yard "bombs" - the very opposite of the thrust of the long pass oriented later Air Coryell system. This system compensated for any weakness in the quarterback's arm, as it allowed the ball to be thrown to short and intermediate routes where receivers with running ability could attempt to make up for any shortage in yards after catch." It was not Paul Brown who created the WCO, it was Walsh who developed a system to use the strength of the qb that they had and not his weakness... Paul Brown offense was called the 32 offense.... If you have been around as you state you have then you will know that offense. T_Man
I don't know if it has been mentioned on this forum, but Bobby Slowik is one of the candidates for the Saints open head coaching position. Who else would want that mess? Ben Johnson sure as hell isn't taking it.
Define "losing like that". There is absolutely no reason to be throwing it that much when you know your OL is cheesecloth and the game is still very much a toss up. Part of the reason we didn't take a multiscore lead into the 4th quarter is the ridiculous amount of passes that Bobby called up to that point.
Its not Bobby Slowiks fault that our wideouts cant seperate, that the IOL turned into pansies and that the tight ends say "nah" when it comes to picking up a blitz. There is nothing ... NOTHING an OC can do if you are getting A gap pressure over and over again. Nothing. Add to that our wideouts are always covered because they cant get open (brilliant huh?). The biggest issue I have with Slowik is his inability to grasp the 4 R's in the WCO pass game. He always seems to have a concept missing from a play lately it had been rush routes underneath, but go back to the beginning -- if you are getting A gap pressure as often as you are the best you can hope for is moving some pockets and some off platform stuff from the QB. Best bet is to commit fully to the run while you figure out the stopgaps at LG and wait for Nico to get back as he's the only guy who can bust coverages with his speed and is smart enough to know how to attack a zone.
Bobby Slowik is at fault. he is responsible for the offense and has an OL filled with guys who have done it before. There are mental on mental errors going on. He needs to coach them on how to do these things. If he can't, then find someone who can figure it out.
Or how about the Chiefs? I know they have Mahomes.. but he’s got a 40 yr old TE and nothing else and they keep winning. His 3rd tier receivers before Hopkins were still always wide open..
The Saints themselves are not going to announce their candidates on the firing day(or never will) but all over Slowik is listed as one of the "top candidates."
I think thats a cop out and just an easy way for fans to excuse away the troubling fact that there are guys on offense that are just flat out not getting it done as a professionals. No need to even mention Kenyon Green right? Our TEs are useless if for anything other than 5 yard outs. Tight End is a HUGE piece of the Shanny puzzle and requires guys who are willing to get dirty in the blocking game which typically will mask some of the action you want to do with your TEs. WRs not named Nico Collins have been mediocre at best. Running backs not named Joe Mixon cant pass block to save their jobs. First thing to fix is the A gap pressure. Once you have that under control everything else should fall into place. Im pretty sure Slowik wasnt expecting everyone to fail that was on the depth chart at guard. Kendrick Green aint it and Patterson who knows? That falls on the guy who got us into this mess and who could get us out of this mess just as easily -- Nick Caserio.
I absolutely wanted Trey Smith & Creed Humphrey in the 2021 draft. KC got them both AND picked up Thuney. Criminal.
The scariest part is I'm seeing mental errors become more prevalent in every position group on this team, and that's on both sides of the ball. Slowik has been abysmal at coaching up the nuanced details for the offense, but DeMeco does NOT get a pass here either. What I saw in the second half of that Jets game defensively was unacceptable from a team that's supposed to compete for an AFCCG this year. Enough with the smiles and positive reinforcement, DeMeco. Your entire coaching staff needs a boot up their asses, and it needs to come from you.
