One of the few unanimous things Rockets fans agreed on last season was how awesome FVV was for us. Regardless of what happens this year, that was a good signing and his maturity has paid major dividends in our development. With that being said, he's been god awful this season and looks like a lot of other small guards entering their 30s. For the life of me, I dont know why FVV is playing 37MPG while Reed is playing just 9 MPG. We NEED to play Reed more minutes and reduce FVV's minutes down considerably (30ish or so), both for sustainability and his lack pf production thus far.
Yes he is 5'11 and decides to get blocked in the paint or miss a layup in late game situations. I'm ready for Amen Thompson to take his spot. Green can be the primary ball handler. Green has looked more mature and intentional with his movement
FVV is playing 37mpg because he is the only true PG on this team. Reed is not a true PG at this point. Neither is Amen. Jalen has never shown the ability to be a reliable lead guard even during his good stretches. Unfortunately the Rockets need FVV for the offense to run. I mean is it my hope that Sheppard may be able to take FVV's minutes as the season go on? Sure, but not 5 games into the season.
This team has udoka problem. Players can suck time to time. Its the coach that needs to do the necessary adjustments
Meh. Small sample sizes, and I don't agree with the common wisdom that small guards age poorly. We have too many counter-examples. One of them was once a Rocket (Kyle Lowry) and another was once a Rocket and is still playing in the league at age 39 (Chris Paul). Fred shouldn't be playing 37mpg, that much is certain. But I'm pretty confident he'll bounce back and still be a really valuable contributor this season. I'd just rather him do it in fewer minutes played.
Yeah I didn't really get yanking him so quickly. I understand having guys on a short leash but...you pull them when it's not going well. I don't know why you'd pull them when it's going well.
It’s not a Fred Van Vleet problem, but more of an overusing Fred even when he’s having a shitty game problem. He actually doesn’t see the floor all that well, despite being very ball-secure. When he can’t shoot, he’s a ZERO on offense, and despite being a tenacious and effective defender, some guys can literally just shoot over him and not even see the top of his hand. He’s calm, collected, and a good veteran. But he’s not a star and shouldn’t be used as such
Who hit the kill shot with 18 seconds left against the Spurs? Calm down people. It's been 5 games. Let's wait until at least 15-20 before jumping to hard conclusions.
He's got to play off ball more. Fewer minutes. I like him on this team while Reed and Amen develop. Ime has to put a tighter leash on the offense overall.
The Rockets have a bit of a peculiar situation. Udoka was brought in to coach this team, and he was the one that clearly recruited FVV and Brooks as well, or at least wanted them on this team. Brooks is only 28, and despite some bad decision making and overzealous shooting, he's been good for the team. FVV however hasn't provided nearly as much value on the court this season. Ime gives him the longest leash, but you also can't bench him because he is still by far the most reliable ball handler.
He’s been objectively bad this year. It’s still early, hopefully the shot comes around. He was a great signing last year and I know he has had a positive influence on our guys, but there’s no reason for him to be playing more than 32 mins a game. I personally would like to see him at 30.
