RIP besides young frankenstein, i also like her in Mr. Mom Close Encounter of the Third Kind Tootsie
She was America's sweetheart before that was a thing. I had always heard that she was basically playing herself in Mr. Mom. RIP
It is truly a sad day for me. One of the most talented actresses of our time, and one of the most unique. I was truly sadden by how her disease debilitated her comedy and personality. Her spots with David Letterman were comic gold. There will never be another Teri Garr.
Super sad. She was great in everything that she's done. Mr. Mom, and Young Frankenstein alone are all you need to see. But there's so much more.
I still remember the first time I found out that was her. I had seen the episode many times before and never noticed. lol. Teri Garr was beautiful and intelligent. I always had a crush on her. R.I.P.
I heard a rebroadcast of an interview she did with Terri Gross yesterday. She was a huge Mel Brooks fan and had tried out originally for the role of the fiancé in Young Frankenstein. Mel Brooks was set in Madeline Kahn but offered to cast her in the role of the sexy assistant to Dr. Frankenstein. She had one day to learn how to do a German accent. On set she told Mel Brooks how much she loved Jewish humor and that she wished she was Jewish. Mel Brooks told her “she was Jewish by injection.” She didn’t elaborate what that meant.
