There are just too many young players on this team and not enough vets. Adding one more young player to that won’t fix the situation - in fact it makes it worse. We’ll see who pans out and who doesn’t but ma wants/needs to win now. Reed should probably go to G league to get burn but they will wait a bit before sending him there to not mess with his mental game and get him acclimated to the NBA rigor
That's exactly what is want to avoid. FVV is important to the team, it would hurt the team if he got injured due to Udoka's incompetence when it comes to rotations. FVV has been injury prone his entire career, he's never been able to play a full season. When he's forced to play 40 minutes against bad teams because the coach has no clue how to properly rotate his players it's a bad sign.
The Rockets MO has been to send guys to the G-league to get adjusted to the system and speed of the game. Sheppard is not ready for rotation minutes and that was easy to predict. Fans are almost always impatient to see the shiny new toy, but this year the Rockets are trying to make the playoffs and it was very predictable that they would bring Sheppard along slowly. The hyperbole about his instant stardom by guys like BTG was just as predictable as Ime’s use of him. Sheppard should be a useful rotation player at some point, but it will take a while to find his niche, unless there is an injury.
FVV spent time in the g league, Amen Thompson went down, Cam went down. Jalen and Jabari were abysmal to start their rookie seasons, but because the team was such a joke they were allowed to play through it. A one year college player going to the G league instead of collecting dust would not be the end of the world. He was always gonna be a player that needed to be brought along slowly, some people just went crazy with expectations after his summer league performance. He doesn't have the body to physically impose himself on the game, a player like that really needs game reps to learn NBA positioning and schemes to make their impact. This team is trying to make the playoffs right now with no time for development minutes.
Very reasonable. I will say the summer league and preseason performance have me excited for Reed moreso than when he was drafted, though I was very happy with the draft. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to the G League. That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if goes back to playing 12-17 minutes a night like the 1st two games. I think it is quite clear that the Rockets lack shooting and getting him up to speed fast likely helps to improve that.
Im not asking him to chuck it. Im asking him to shoot open shots. He came off a screen last night wide open and passed up a shot.
Sure... and he got Sengun an easy bucket at the rim by passing on the 3 that time. The other time he passed on the 3 he got a hockey assist for 3. Neither were bad plays. I'd like him to shoot it more, and I agree he passes up shots he should take, but i won't fault a point guard for passing on a shot to create something better for someone else.
Let him see this in the film room and he'll recognize it in the game. I'd much rather Reed take a tentative role when he isn't sure of himself than forcing it and ending up 1/6 with 5 turnovers. We're trying to win games while bringing Reed along. Sarr and Risacher were 3/11 and 1/8 last night.
G league starts on Nov 8th guys! I'm just going to go ahead and pencil Reed into the opening night on the G-league RGV team. I think he needs the time in the G league learning how to play the role of PG. It does feel a bit like he is struggling with the duties of a PG of knowing when to shoot vs being a facilitator and is stuck in facilitator mode to the point he has missed why we drafted him in the first place - to be a floor spacer. The PG duties will come with time, but he needs to be a floor spacer first and a facilitating PG second because establishing himself as a threat as a shooter is going to open up passing lanes anyway....which is just a long winded way of saying: "Shoot it!!!"
Let him go to Gleague and work on some stuff. Holiday can hold it down until he returns . He doesn’t look too sure of himself when he actually plays. He looks passive
He's 100% looks like he's trying to not hurt the team when he's on the floor moreso than trying to play his game.
I wish he'd gotten some more minutes last night. Looked to me like he did fine while he was on the court. He makes the safe, smart play when handling PG duties. His hands on defense are a remarkable +. It's inconsistent Jabari (his best game this season last night) and Cam (his worst) I'm worried about.
He wouldn't learn anything in the g league, but he would get playing time. If Udoka is too dumb to get him minutes, let him get them in the g league to stay fresh because before long they'll need him to log major minutes after FVV gets injured from being run into the ground.
Ok, cool. it took Ime 2 games to adjust. Reed's minutes: 16 13 6 3 And frankly I don't think he deserves any more than that right now. He will hopefully be a great shooting spark off the bench in the seconf half of the season. Right now he's more of a liability overall than an asset. It's nice to see Ime validating that with the trend in his minutes. Sometimes you have to trust what you're seeing and not what you'd hoped to see or what you're excusing away b/c of your bias or preference.
Give him 5-7 more games and if he's still having minimal impact, have him play in the G-League. He needs to be more aggressive with his offense. He seems to struggle finding the space to shoot comfortably.
