Wemby is the toolsiest defensive player of all time, and probably will end up as one of the best. No shame to admit Sengun going 1v1 to score against him in the paint will not be good offense for long. That’s why you have counters. Long term the strategy with Wemby will be the same as Gobert etc. You have to space him out and make him guard the 3pt line. Sengun is at 50% from 3 so far this season. He needs to keep getting those 3’s up.
I am most bothered by losing his touch and footwork. He can't do the things he used to do so smoothly and naturally. Hopefully he just needs a readjustment after working on his weaknesses. Otherwise, it will be a problem.
What if Alpi says the three isn't for me and gets rid of the wrist band. Goes back to 28% from three but also 58% around the basket. Is that something you would be interested in?
I'm actually not convinced on that with Wemby, did you not catch many of his games last season? He can close that space to the perimeter in a flash and get the block regardless. Stretching doesn't work, he's too long and too agile. You have to muscle him right now. He's Yao's height but weighs less than MJ, we're not talking somebody who Shaq would struggle to move, we're talking somebody Shaq would snap like a twig/blade of grass.
The point is not to shoot over his contests, it’s to get him out of the paint / easy secondary rim protection position. If Wemby is closely guarding the perimeter, as the opponent you’re winning. If he’s standing under the rim, you’re losing. It’s why the Spurs went completely away from what they were doing at the start of last year — playing Wemby with a C and having Wemby play perimeter defense. They stuck him in the paint as the C and went from horrendous defensively to much much better.
Ah yeah that's fair, I thought you were talking about how you'd have to attack him in isolation/from his matchup rather than as a team.
Not sure if it's just me. I feel that he is slower. On offense, he's missing some shots under the basket he normally makes. But his footwork isn't as crisp and he's rushing his shots. On defense, he also is slower, not able to shut down the base line when opponent drives. I thought he's in much better shape after the offseason. Weird. Also, he's not making as much passing to give teammates easy baskets. I don't know if someone told him to be more aggressive in scoring and so he's not looking to pass. I really hope that's not the case. Sengun needs to play his game, i.e. be creative and instinctive. When he's thinking, he's messing up his own mind.
Bro what is the point in making statements like that? Just enjoy Green playing well. We know Sengun will come around. Why are you chomping at the bit for Green to start playing badly?
We are 4 games into the season . Quit panicking like that 1-2 start .. he will have his big moments this year . Be patient
Maybe he worked out wrong.....remember Tmac and Wayne Hall? It is not as easy to find the right trainers as well for your goals and your build.
It's not that easy to get into a rhythm after a fairly significant injury. His struggles are a matter of concern, to say the least.
I would get worried after 20-30 games into the season.....it is just too early for everything. IMO this season is still about development no matter what Udoka or any players say....if they make the Playoffs fine, if not I could see people reacting negatively but in the end there has to be team development. Udoka should be criticized. I think Sengün will face some backlash as well. New life with this massive contract extension.
His foul troubles might have made him a lot more hesitant to challenge other players on defense, and I think he's a bit flustered at the moment. The below play, where Sochan drives straight at him and dunks at him, is probably the worse defensive play I have seen from Sengun in his whole career. Sengun's not a shot blocking threat by any means but he is generally a pretty good 1 v 1 defender, you can't have Sochan of all people score on you like this. I do expect a big bounce back game from Sengun soon though. He has too much data points to prove he isn't this bad.
I propose we bury the hatchet, there is no war going on between fans. We should keep it that way. People understand fandom as entertainment and not war. Players are entertainers, we have our favorites but it should stay civil. Try to be better. This rhetoric of crack female is out of touch with what should be going on here.
