I'm flying into DC at 7 Sunday night and I'll have 2-3 hours to kill with a rental car. Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm thinking of just walking the Mall, but didn't know if there is anything that may be more interesting.

Never been to DC before, so any recommendations would be cool.

It's dead on Sundays except for the occasional small/medium concert. That's also not enough time to go to many places. A quiet drive around the Capitol area when no one is working is fun. Lincoln Memorial and a few others are 24 hours and less crowded at night. Park and walk.

The Mall at Night is surprisingly excellent. Not many people do it. Do it. Jefferson, MLK, Lincoln, Vietnam, WWII, Washington all lit. Walking it is very safe too. And for anyone else not sitting on a cushion, looking out from the Lincoln at sunrise is about as good as it gets.

+1 for the mall at night. It's the absolute best time to go.

Which airport are you flying into? You'll have time for some of this if it's DCA. Don't bother if it's Dulles or Baltimore.

    I am flying into DCA.

I think I'll definitely do the mall. I just hope I have enough time to get a decent walk in, and see as much as possible.

That's totally doable on a Sunday. Street parking should be free and relatively plentiful. I'd park on West Basin Dr SW near the MLK monument. That's an easy walking distance from the Lincoln, Korean War, MLK, FDR, WWII and Washington monuments. Plus it'll get you back onto Independence Avenue and heading to DCA with minimal traffic.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm actually traveling down towards the Fredericksburg/ Richmond area after.
