My hat is off to Stone, Eli Witus, the front office, ownership - and to Alpi for taking a discount

It will be quite fun if it goes the other way. Imagine Bari asking more than alpi and green :)

This shows Alpi’s commitment to be a champion above all else. Hope he’s a career Rocket!

The management team is considered part of the front office. It’s a team. Decisions aren’t made in a bubble. There’s several scouts, basketball operations people, etc including asst general manager Eli who has worked with Stone and Morey in the past to get Paul. Stone still has final decision making. But it’s usually a collaborative team effort in terms of trades, drafts, and contracts.

Fun fact, Sengun and Green are the only two players from the 2021 draft to receive player of the week awards. They are also the only two players from the 2021 draft to be nominated for player of the month awards.

Thankful for our front office and their innovative approach to contracts and trades, dating back to the poison pill contracts for Asik and Lin, the protections on the Raptors pick that was used in the Harden trade in 2012, trading for a bunch of tiny non-guaranteed salaries to aggregate in a Chris Paul trade in 2017, the KPJ contract, and now the first of a kind extension for Jalen Green.

That is crazy for someone whose highest scoring Average is 21.4 or something and Green's not much higher although he has higher scoring potential.

Players of the Months definitely in the cards.

So Cade, Mobley, Barnes and Franz all got max extensions - Sengun and Green each take a deal almost 10 million lower than that. I can't quite wrap my head around that. Are other teams overvaluing their players or did we get a discount? Is it perhaps a kind of strategy to make players feel like they are max players with the hope, that they then play as one?

    • All those max extensions emerged in the summer, the educated guess is that the situation was different and those organizations felt that their market couldn't attract better young star players.

    • They felt like extending them to the max right away would put their mind to ease.

    • They already figured out their hierarchy!

    • The Sengun and Green deals felt like harsh negotiations down to the wire.

And also the agents were surprisingly forthcoming in the end which is not a given.... I recalled BJ Armstrong.

It looks to me like Alpi was waiting to see if Jalen signed the paycut before committing to one

Sengun will always be goated for taking a discount. He would've easily gotten the max from another team in RFA.

Green I think is an overpay, however, I prefer what Stone did to the alternative because I was worried he'd do something stupid and pay Green the rookie max like all the other lotto picks got in the same draft.

I hope Green proves me wrong and plays like MJ again but for the entire season... I doubt that'll happen.

    Great point.

And If Amen or Reed explode into stars at some point, we are well positioned to keep them.

Keeping Tari and Bari on reasonable deals would be huge. Excellent players that are great fits with JG+Alperen on paper.

Who said they were arguing anything? The market is set according to how much teams are willing to pay. And player performance is part of determining individual player value. Agents will try to do what’s in the best interest of their clients and protect them against unfair deals and usually the most money with player options.

Of course this is all dependent if they want to stay here or get a better offer elsewhere.

But I wonder what you would want for yourself. When you negotiate your salary do you go in with the mindset of what’s best for the company or your own interest? :D

who even knows what his market value is? Do we know what teams were willing to sign him for the max? No we don’t so we have no idea what the market was for him

He did great. No extension drama. Great deals for the Rockets. With so much potential in the young talents, the Rockets accomplished the job of not betting everything on just 2 of them.
