...similarly not concerned "yet" BUT I don't think in the modern NBA that it matters whether you are above average for your position because the goal for all the best teams is to have players who can be an above average threat at every position. The days of positional strategies died with the Warriors, Nuggets, Bucks, and Celtics winning titles in recent memory.
If he was 7-year veteran at his prime playing the whole season like he did in this preseason, I'd agree that he's just a run of the mill rotation player. But he is a 20-year old kid who has never played an NBA game. All we can do now is see whether he has what it takes to be a star player, including physical skills and mental makeup. Most people without biased agenda who watched him play would agree that he has those things. That doesn't mean that he will certainly turn into a star. Just that he has what it takes. Shooting percentage needs a large sample size to be accurate. He took a total of 10 3pt shots in 3 preseason games. That's hardly large enough to judge anything.
Even before the draft I was saying that Reed was going to be a good player. Just not right away in his 1st season. Plus I have always been critical of his big game performance in college which was poor. Now it looks like the glamour, glitz and bright lights of the NBA may be too much for him. Seriously, a little bit of time in the G would not be the end. Anything would be better than him sitting on the bench and playing garbage minutes. He needs to start right now with 30+ minutes and the only way for him to do that is to go down to the valley.
He looks good. He won't set the league on fire in his rookie season but i like what i've seen so far. He has great mechanics and has a high bbiq. At worst we will have our own Donte DiVincenzo
Got to give him 2-3 seasons so the data/metrics will be more in drove to fit whatever narrative each mad fanatic comes up with Go Reed (Sea) Sheppard
Reed is gonna need some Jalen in him and start jacking up shots. They not gonna pass you the ball…everyone out there trying to get paid. Making the right read is not gonna cut it.
Dalton Knecht Devin Carter (shld surgery). We shouldn't see Reed much this year either. Kel'el Ware Zach Edey I didn't care if we moved back or taken one of them at 3. This draft sucked that much. _____ Reed was suppose to be a 3-point sniper. Open things up for Sengun/Green.....told people he came off the bench in college. If you think he is going to shoot 54% from 3 in the NBA, you're batsh*t crazy. Too small, can barely get his shot off. 18.2% from 3 in preseason on 2/11 attempts. What was he in summer league? 27% from 3?
Jalen will naturally jack up more shots for multitude of reason. One of them is because defenders will perceive Reed to be the better shooting threat than Green so when one of Green or Reed operates the pnr, the defender is more likely to go under on Green and go over on Shepard. The other reason they'd play those two that way is also because they fear Green's explosion to the rim a lot more than Reed. Also Green is longer. All these factors means he's going to get more good looks. Most of Green's looks are good looks. He creates separation pretty effortlessly on or off ball. He just is missing more than we'd like on those good looks. Ime WANTS Green to shot when for example the defender goes under the screen. The hope his he gets consistent enough at those threes that defender start having to make the hard choice of doing things like go over the screen or blitz which is what happened in the Thunder game last season. When you go over the screen on Green or try to blitz him he's going to blow by or split the double from the blitz. He sometimes settled when he should drive this preseason but I'm not sure how often of that is not trying to drive to the rim too much in preseason games. Someone in Green's shoes is deathly afraid of injuries and missing time in the first couple of months because he knows he has to show up then or else he might get traded or settle for something considerably lower than the max.
