We will find you and mass deport your entire family and associates in the coming months when our dear leader Trump is reinstalled as president!!!
Heck they might deport me. Why do you think I have such an interest in Ireland? Not because I like bland rubbery bacon and overcast weather.
A lot of people don’t know is that there was no such thing as an “illegal” immigrant for much of US history. Pretty much if you could get to the US you were allowed in. The first group that was legally excluded were Chines with the Exclusion Acts.
Not quite. Crossing the border without authorization is a crime. Overstaying a visa is a civil violation. Illegal doesn't mean criminal, it just means in violation of the law. You can have an illegal addition on your house because it isn't up to code. So, the border jumpers are criminal aliens, but all people here without authorization are illegal aliens.
In my line of work, there are not really any opportunities to discuss someone's immigration status (in fact it is specifically forbidden). The court has to advise every single person that pleads to a felony that it can and will result in their deportation if they are not a citizen of the United States, because California doesn't think it is okay to inquire as to their immigration status, but does think failing to advise someone that they could be deported for committing a felony is a violation of their due process rights. In fact, prosecutors are required to consider immigration consequences in plea bargaining and whether there are considerations that can be made to lessen or eliminate those consequences. The correct terminology is what I indicated above, but it just doesn't really apply in my position.
Why don't we call them the Competition, if an illegal is taking your jerb, you need to reconsider being in this country and quit being a deadweight, this is capitalism
Agreed. The action is illegal (it breaks the law). The person is not. They are still allowed to drive. A person may have committed an illegal border crossing and nevertheless be permitted to stay under law until their amnesty case is reviewed in a court. The person is not “illegal” in that case. Others may disagree, but I don’t have a particular problem with referring to a person who is not legally allowed to reside here as an illegal alien or illegal immigrant. However , I see that using “illegal” as a noun has become increasingly popular on the right, and I do consider that to be more of a slur intended to dehumanize them.
You're on the right track. There are plenty of businesses that hire illegal immigrants because they're cheap, powerless (fearful of being caught and deported), and reliable. That reliability is a byproduct of having no power. They won't unionize, they won't demand better working conditions, they won't miss work for being sick, and they'll continue to pad the bottom line for their employers in a more lucrative way than American labor. But, the flip side is that American consumers are also to blame. We don't make things in this country anymore, at least not in the way that MAGA remembers and incorrectly thinks we can bring back. Instead we make, demand, and consume services. Although wages have been stagnant for 40 years our appetite for consumption only gets bigger. Who fills the void if Americans aren't making more money, but demand more vacations, restaurants, Ubers, home renovations, and housekeeping services? Illegal labor that subsidizes that demand. The New York Times recently had a really interesting piece about illegal labor and the price of milk. Unlike other industries, dairy farmers aren't employing illegal immigrants out of greed. They are doing it out of necessity because they produce a relatively inelastic product that hasn't meaningfully risen in price since the 1970s. Essentially: Without this pool of frightened, desperate, and cheap labor, Americans wouldn't be able to buy milk. I described it as "inelastic" because almost every American with kids knows that milk is a necessity. And, like everything else in the economy, it doesn't exist in a vacuum: Illegal labor subsidizes the lifestyle we've all become accustomed to since the 1980s. If someone is angry at illegal immigrants for cheaply preparing their food, repairing their house, or cleaning their chicken carcasses, they also need to be angry at themselves for greedily equating consumption with wealth. Finally, they need to be clear-eyed about the economic consequences of mass deportation. A 10% increase in grocery store prices (along with Trump's proposed 20% tariff on foreign goods - bye, cheap HEB produce grown in Mexico!) will cause a lot of populist anger that, after the last few years, I do not doubt will be directed at the wrong people.
Because it is James O'Keefe - he has been discredited literally dozens of time. He was fired from his own organization - for stealing money. It is almost impossible to find a less credible person than him.
