In July I saw some forum posts about people looking for Ariyas. I went hunting.
Turns out Nissan was closing out the 2023 models with some hefty rebates. I even got Nissan finance to throw in a texas lender tax credit.

    Here's the lease breakdown:

    ...and I actually like it!

Tesla has a real problem with their now dated looking designs. At first they were OK but now they are looking bland and old. Of course, the other problem is that the vocal political positions of the owner alienate a lot of potential buyers. If he just gave millions on the down-low and hosted expensive getaways for politicians like the old money guys know how to do, Tesla wouldn't have that issue.

The robotaxi design looks nice and modern, except the idiot CEO decided to just build it as a robotaxi with no steering wheel instead of selling it as a Model 2.

Tesla might have cool ideas but do not bet on the CEO, he's running things into the ground.

Imagine having the best selling car and still running your company into the ground. Maybe more auto companies should run their companies in the ground if that is the bar of success.

Elon needs to take Clarance Thomas to lunch (maybe Italy) and get tips on how to be covert in your political shenanigans......................CT has it down to a science, have a rich donor buy your moms house as well as several others, turn them into a museum of the future and have them pay it off for you. Easy ways to get around those pesky taxes and what not

Tesla has the best selling car now because of the decisions that were made before their CEO became a nut job. Tesla now is reaping the fruits of their innovation from 10 years ago. However, that's only going to last so long as the company makes misstep after misstep while the competition catches up.

Exactly what missteps have they been making?
People like yourself have been claiming competition is coming, however the opposite has happened. The only real competition is BYD.

Well the opposite has def happened if you flip the chart upside down.

Marketshare is down from 80% to 48%...so people are buying something else...i don't know. maybe folks are making their own cars.

Don't lie. You've had that 3ths margarita at La Hacienda a few times and your wife drives home :)

Gotten so used to the EV instant torque, almost got into a wreck recently in my ICE car.
So just be aware if you switch cars a lot.

On a different note, I am still shocked at the # of cars on the road in Houston now. I have no idea how this is sustainable in 10 years.

Well, the alternative is not sustainable at all now. We do need a revolution in electricity generation if we want to continue a lifestyle more or less like what we have now. Rooftop and parking lot solar will help, but there will be three big demands: cooling, transportation, and a distant third is AI because we need our memes. Also, as golf courses are to landscape, crypto is to electricity.

    EV or not.

The past several months to years, a lot of the huge tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc. have been partnering with nuclear power companies in various ways for their AI endeavors. Microsoft is partnering with Constellation Energy and firing up part of Three-Mile Island (*ahem*), Google is hooking up with companies like Kairos, Amazon is connecting with various energy companies to bring up small modular nuclear reactors, etc. They realize their data centers and AI needs are getting bigger and we wouldn't be able to supply any consistent energy for their needs, so they're trying to come up with "reasonable" ideas that don't pump more pollutants in the air but also supports their needs. Let's face it, they're doing it mostly for their own needs - they're public companies trying to turn a profit, and right now AI and data centers are it, but it's still a step in a better direction, I guess.

In Texas, they were starting a study or something of using those SMR's to add to the grid. That's what Abbott said earlier this year or last year, anyway. I don't know where those plans are currently, though. I don't know enough about them, but think it may be a good step and at least a way to add to the grid at a more reasonable cost than trying to fire up a full-sized nuclear power plant.
