Speaking of back to hurricanes, there could be another tropical depression forming this week.

This is what happens when a cult becomes brainwashed and radicalized to fight out against anyone and everyone their orange man leader and his conspiracy theorists calls the enemy. We saw what they did Jan 6th after some fraud and con stood there spewing his lies and inciting them to fight. Nobody is safe who isn't a Trump loyalist, willing to echo his lies and defend him. It's straight out of the playbooks of evil leaders throughout history. They are like ISIS with red hats and white faces.

Forgive my tin foil hat, but I wouldn't put this past Trump's people organizing this. Hell, they organized January 6th.

Scare FEMA out but blame FEMA on leaving, don't address the "why."

Trump knows Republican leadership might explain that there is misinformation out there but they won't attach "Donald Trump is the one lying" to their statements, lest they incur his wrath should he win.

This is exactly why I call them cowards. They and more concerned with retribution than standing for truth, honesty, and transparency. They did it to themselves by endorsing that psychopath again. Why? It's mind boggling. Throw away everything you believe in for some twisted old man who doesn't believe in anything but himself. Liz Cheney has bigger balls than those weasels like Vance, Cruz, Gaetz, Biggs, and all the rest of the MAGA men. At least she stood for Democracy, the truth and right and wrong.

Well, it was the same thing on January 6th (2021, of course). All those Republicans in the House basically signed a loyalty oath when they voted to not certify the election. It reminds me of a scene that didn't make it into the final cut of "The Godfather". Bonasera the undertaker gets a call from Hagen that he owes his Don a service and to show up in an hour at the funeral home. As he gets ready to leave, Bonasera discusses with his wife how he "could even go to prison" for getting mixed up with the Don and rues the day he ever kissed the ring. But he has no choice but to obey.

As a Housemember put it at the time, "The things we do for Orange Jesus."

Well said, and quite a coincidence. Are you psychic? I just started reading the Godfather last night, since I had never read the book. I just got past the part where Bonasera came to Don at his daughter's wedding begging for help, and committed to the deal before I went to bed.

If National Guard witnessed militiamen threatening federal employees (as CNN reports it), why aren't we reading about how these militiamen were arrested? National Guard would need to call police to make arrests, but I gotta think they make credible witnesses. Something weird about this story that a threat is credible enough to disrupt operations throughout the county but not pressing enough to pursue an arrest.

Things can be cancelled out of precaution, maybe we'll later find out it was a joking threat. I don't see this much different than the Springfield bomb threats. We are at a place where there could be risk due to rhetoric being spread.

If it's a non-credible threat, I don't think FEMA is justified in suspending operations in disaster recovery (and, again they did only suspend for 1 day). People need help in a time-sensitive fashion and you can't just use that abundance-of-caution rationale.

Anyway, as a piece of political fodder like it was delivered here -- that I should take the implication that rightwing extremists would go so far as to threaten FEMA workers in a disaster zone and it was so serious that they withdrew from the county, and the implication of the implication being that Trump's misinformation is leading to violence -- I reject it. With no arrest and even no discussion that threatening a federal employee engaged in his duty is a federal crime in their articles, I'm inclined to think that the newspapers are making it bigger than it is. When someone gets attacked or someone gets arrested, then I'll give them credit.

It is just bandwidth. You on the other hand are wasting oxygen. You need to go outside and apologize to the trees...and pay your debts.

Are you claiming that FEMA is playing political games in scaling down outreach to score points against right-wing misinformation? Or just claiming that media is overcovering that this happened? Do you blame FEMA for shutting down door to door activities due to threats (credible or not) or do you blame the actors making the threats?

To me this is exactly like reporting Springfield received bomb threats after the eating the dogs comments were broadcasted nationally.
Aid workers for FEMA should hardly be expected to work under threats, unless you think it's normal that stateside disaster recovery sites should be considered hostile territory.

Edit: To be clear, I'm also skeptical about how real the threat is, but that is partially due to how insane it is to me to threaten someone that is there to help you. I'm slowly starting to accept that our society has gotten crazy though.

I used to believe that, but after seeing how there were reports of incidents of linesmen being threatened in Houston after Beryl, I think it's definitely possible in isolated incidents.

When people are agitated due to things outside their control, they try to find scapegoats, and FEMA workers are easy targets. I highly highly doubt it's widespread, but it only takes one crazy person.

It seems to be an isolated incident. Any threat of this sort must be taken seriously. This hurts a community that is already suffering. There is a direct link here: some crazy threatened FEMA due to Trump's antics

Arrest made after FEMA crews threatened amid hurricane relief efforts (yahoo.com)

In a statement to CBS News, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said they received a call Saturday afternoon that said a man with an assault rifle had made a comment about possibly harming FEMA employees working on recovery efforts in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area. Deputies alerted the Lake Lure Police Department and other agencies of the threat.

The man suspected of making the threat was identified as William Parsons, 44, of Bostic, North Carolina. He was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public.

The sheriff's office said Parsons was armed with a handgun and a rifle when he was arrested. He was released on a $10,000 bond.

"The initial report stated there was a truck load of militia that was involved," the sheriff's office said. "However, after further investigation, it was determined Parsons acted alone and there were no truck loads of militia going to Lake Lure."

Even though those were isolated instances, social media blew it up as it was happening everywhere. There is no excuse for that but boy oh boy do you see the worst in people when they have no basic necessities. Leading up to the storm I was at HEB and so many people think a storm is a reason to act a fool......................I caught myself having a breakdown on night 3 of no power and it was 100 degrees out, that's an isolation I never want to have again
