In addition to having the cap room, I really would like to just get more information on if the players are our max players long term. Start with Green, he's inconsistent, and I'd put him at the same level as JB on Mavs. He could improve like JB did after his NYK contract, but remember everyone thought it was an overpay at the time. You don't want to max and found out his sealing a prime CJ Collum, Bradley Beal level player. Sengun is more consistent, but unless he develops an outside shot will always need a team to be built around him to some extent. Having stretch big in one of your 4/5 spots is becoming a requirement, but hard to find. If you max Sengun you almost have to make sure you spend resources to get a Naz Reid or Brook Lopez in the draft, and that's if Sengun can guard the 4/5. I think he's similar to Julius Randle, max worthy player, but difficulty of fit is a concern to max. Now for both players, I'm a fan and hope and will likely want to match any (including max) offer for, but it's just wiser to wait.
current Jalen Green has not yet proven to be anywhere near the level of Jalen Brunson in his final season with the Mavs if this team still can’t make the playoffs and continues to look incompetent whenever FVV, someone who is not even a star or top 20 player, isn’t on the court, then this entire young core is highly suspect and I’ll be questioning its ultimate ceiling
It is not even the Playoffs that is the problem because you can always have a good year and sneak in..... There would be the stagnation phase when most of the young players cannot get much better, if their ceiling is not as sky high as anticipated. A big, splashy move is on the horizon......
Let's be honest. You're not winning any championship around a bigman with no 3pt shot or defense. Jokic is a unicorn there is no comparison
Push come to shove and i think im not giving the max to Jalen Green. I still want to pay him as a valued asset but maybe just not the max unfortunately for everyone.
You know it is not a fantasy game where you can pick any player you want. If you are not signing them to a max contract, you are not gonna sign Wemby either, what is your plan?
I'm more concerned about his free throw percentage than the 3 point shot. But in my mind Sengun and Thompson are the only untouchables.
Alpi should have been extended a long time ago. I don't care about the potential cap room we probably won't use. He's better than Franz, Cunningham, and Mobley, and at least on par with Barnes. It's a no-brainer.
Those guys are not useful comps, they have much higher cap holds. If sengun was the 1st pick and had the massive hold he would have already been extended.
Wagner is an especially good comp. His cap hold was around 17.5 mil before he was extended, and he's a far worse player than Sengun (whose cap hold is around 16 mil). Did that stop the Magic? No. Because you don't mess around extending guys like that.
orlando is capped out either way, makes no difference if he was extended or not. Zero cap space either way. Completely irrelevant to the rockets situation. It's not relevant to anything but your cap hold number was also wrong as the guy picked after wagner is 19.4 cap hold
There’s a saying, “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” People get too focused on Sengun’s weaknesses and take him for granted. A max player is a max player.
I would t I think Franz was probably too early to, but he is also a career 33% three points shooter. He's a max player that is easier to slot in and out of lineups, and that lineup flexibility carries a premium these days.
