*in 2 games. Maybe like 4 total quarters combined, even. What a ridiculous stat to post like it means something and is some kind of counter argument.
So is this surprising that he has ups and downs? Gradually we recognize what an extreme rhythm player is. I think he is getting paid either way, guys like Andrew Wiggins and Poole got paid early on.
Nice so we've already made it so that if he starts well, the "easy schedule" excuse for continuing to hate on him is in place. Jalen's struggles have nothing to do with the opponent. His first two seasons outbreaks were against better teams than we were. His March last season was mostly against teams just as talented as we were at that point on time (injuries). IIRC we were 25-34 entering March and then shortly after lost our best player for the remainder of the season. We were just as bad as the teams we were facing and Green personally changed that. His success has everything to do with his shot selection and the coach not allowing a crowded paint or slow pace. For as long as we allow a snail's pace and our own players are helping opponents pack the paint, his shot selection won't matter much because the only thing that will be available is motionless catch and shoot 3's. Turning all 4 players around Sengun into motionless catch and shooters is lazy coaching and a depressingly low ceiling for us. I think Udoka will get it right and I hope the board gives him credit for making the right tactical move and helping Jalen with more mature shot selection. Not calling you a hater, I can just foresee what the haters are going to do with this information you're sharing.
Those are the same clowns that said March last season was a small sample size. They probably didn't watch the game and went straight to the box score. They didn't notice VanVleet didn't play, nor did Steven Adams.
In a couple of threads, I have posted the opponents for the first 18 games and predicted a 14-4 start for the Rockets. I am excited for the season to start! The Rockets will be in the discussion all season and the team (and Jalen) will look good. For this thread, the two sides will go at it like you say.
I think we can all agree that if he looks bad in that favorable stretch of the season, it's a really bad sign. He needs to alleviate the concerns about his consistency this season.
Yes, it is as you say. For me, I will be looking at assist rate and his form on threes and middle range jumpers. Preseason is too short sample and artificial to say much about most players. Jalen’s three looks better - more like the training videos where he slows down and gets balanced.
Hopefully not because for the team to be in the Playoffs, it takes the whole team plus the rookie and the sophomores to be the focal point. Yet those guys are still minimizing the impact of Amen in the dunker's spot and talking up the impact of Jalen Green last year.
When you've been inefficient your whole career and you come out in the pre-season of a contract year and continue to be inefficient....idk man kinda reminds me of Christian Wood clapping back at that reporter calling out his FT %s in the pre-season saying "it's just pre-season" and then he pretty much continued his terrible FT shooting into the regular season. Everyone else's statistics have pretty much translated. Bari shooting 50%. Amen 50%. Sengun 60%. Cam 44%. Jalen isn't in a position to be having bad games in any capacity. Whether it be pre-season or regular season.
You’re sure putting a lot of weight on 4 quarters of preseason basketball, 2 of which were without FVV. It makes it seem like you have some kind of axe to grind or you have no idea what a ridiculously small sample size is. What’s FVV shooting in the preseason? It’s a contract year for him too, technically - we could decline his option. Should we be worried?
I'm doing that because there's 3 seasons of terrible play prior to it. Why do you think I'm not doing the same with FVV? Go ahead. Guess. Or if someone else can fill him in I'll take that as well.
I know why you’re not doing it. I’m just pointing out the absurdity of trying to draw any conclusions from the cumulative stats of 2 preseason games
Inconsistency can happen at various stages, he could have a miraculous year and then a bad year. It just so happens during a time when Udoka is helping his development a lot, if he joins another team and coach.....chances are that he is not being taken care of. Great players rarely needed a coach to jumpstart their career.
Of course it is way too early to tell but based on his three seasons so far his only consistency is inconsistency. Granted when he is on he is great but he has to show his lows happen much less often with less drop off than his previous 3 seasons to get paid by this team IMHO.
