My biggest worry with Jalen and all our young guns is whether any of them is capable of taking on a leadership role ala FVV. I think only Amen and Reed seem like candidates.
Green seems like a better teammate than Zach who seems out there. Of course Zach has way better shooting which he can rely on, but from a pure mentality standpoint I feel Jalen is better.
Green isn't a leader he is a follower, he is not someone that is going to move the needle forward he is a decent scorer and great athlete but an above average basketball player. DD
I don't really buy that this team is desperate for Jalen's ability to create .... more often than not his creation doesn't lead to points and they have many other options to create shots. There's more than one way to skin a cat. When is the last time we saw Jalen get a shot by moving off the ball? When he's on the bench others do just that - particularly Cam & Amen. No, they don't have Jalen's ability to break down a defense but they don't necessarily need to when someone else sets the table. They just need to finish plays. What they are desperate for is a go to guy .... that hasn't been Jalen. What do you expect when your highest volume shooter has been bad more often than not? You replace Jalen with someone defenses have to respect at the 3 point line and it changes everything, the entire offense opens up. Guys can't go under screens, back off of the ball handler / shooter or play drop coverages.
It's so much easier to defend the rim when you are playing drop coverage ..... and that despite shooting ~38% from 3. I think it's safe to say that because of his shooting history as a career 33% shooter from 3, they invite that 3 point shot and clog the paint - it's a much better option than him getting an open look at the rim or someone else getting an open look. He's going to have to consistently make that shot at a high clip for defenses to change the way they defend him.
I mean everyone outside of Fred, Alpe and a few ....have a 1 or 2 moves and they use them well but it looks monotonous..... They have no bags or no creativity whatsoever. All I see is running down the court, athleticism, 3 pointers, the occasional middies.
i dont think anybody is really disputing that. Hes making correct reads even though "hes a low iq chucker" and currently hes 38% from deep and yet the claims are "we are screwed if this is how he shoots for the year" yet hes been efficient with the sets. its obviously not enough data to make any realistic claim yet tho, and its annoying that people are shouting nothings changed and hes the same bum. when in reality hes doing a great job of operating the sets asked of him and making the shots the defense is giving him.
I am expecting a hot start to 2024 for Jalen. The first 18 games are March 2024 butter soft. Should be an interesting board by mid November. The team should be out to a fast start and Jalen will look pretty good.
I agree with you. Rockets won't be playing the Jazz 82 games, nor will they be playing what many consider the number 1 team, Thunder. Steven Adams didn't play in the Thunder games and Jalen Green benefits from the Adams bone jarring screens. I've always said I want a screener that gets at least one offensive foul a game. If they aren't slightly pushing, pulling or doing a subtle moving screen.....then they aren't trying hard enough. Adams knows much of the tricks of the trade. Onward Rockets Soldiers......Go Rockets !!
I am definitely not a Jalen Stan. What I am saying is that the first 18 games are favorable for a hot start for the Rocket and Jalen Green. 11 home games and only 7 away games. Only 5 games versus top 5-10 defenses that can execute the defense that keeps Jalen out of the lane. 8 games versus tankers like Charlotte, Washington, and Portland. If Jalen is inefficient with this opening schedule, the Rockets will probably change up the rotation. I expect both Jalen and the Rockets to do relatively well.
Sengun???? Reed is being led by everyone he is a baby chick out there so not sure why he would be a candidate. Jalen Green organized that players only camp so I'd say he is more of a candidate than Sheppard is RN. At the of the day they are a bunch of early 20 yr olds. Do you put kids like in leadership roles already in your company?
