To me, Yainer is the catcher, plain and simple. That is where he is best suited based on his skills, maybe that changes in the future, but right now he is the starting catcher. I think people are forgetting Yainer was getting reps at 1B because our first basemen sucked ass all year long. Espada was doing anything he could to get production at that position and extend the lineup. Abreu was absolute cheeks, and Singleton was barely mediocre, and even that was only against righties. I would like to see us acquire a legitimate first baseman, with Diaz the starting catcher.
You sure did !! "Biggio is a much different player than Diaz " Consider it debunked ! Great reasoning and "debunking" How about: Biggio's game is based on speed rather than Power. He was also smaller of stature so less able to absorb the physical toll catching takes. His arm was also a detriment at catcher. Moving him allowed him to maximize his overall potential. Most of these issues don't apply to Diaz.
Yeah all of that is well known. I’m lazy. I just said they were vastly different players. also, Diaz is a better defensive catcher than Biggio was.
Yeah I disagree. Biggio was mostly a negative defensively and was a much better 2nd baseman. He was small and he was gassed by the end of the year in 1991. That’s why he was moved. I know you aren’t a Diaz guy but he is a better defensive catcher than Biggio was. He’s actually built for the position too
I know, you’re smarter than everyone about it. I doubt you remember anything about Biggio’s game calling skills which is obviously what you’re getting at. Just come over to the Diaz side. It’s not gonna hurt you.
Nope, I'm "getting at" Diaz's inability or unwillingness to drop down and block balls with his chest/body instead of stabbing at them with his glove.
Maldy got fat and lazy in the later years. Biggio was really good at it. Go watch a video of Benito Santiago and other such guys.
What about Ha-Seong Kim at 3rd base if Breggy leaves? Lacks pop but provides gold-glove defense and versatile in-fielder, very good baserunner and maybe could be had for cheap since he's coming off a shoulder surgery. And then you can spend the big money on a power bat like Anthony Santander and/or re-signing Kikuchi.
Also, just being real, Biggio didn’t have to catch the nasty pitches that Diaz does on a nightly basis and Biggio averaged more PB’s than Diaz.
