I really don't think his issue is making correct reads. It how long it takes him to make the read. High IQ players with a good feel will Immediately swing the ball or pass to a spot that they anticipate players will be. Jalen holds the ball and waits too very last second to pass. Because passing isn't his first instinct. He always wants to dribble and shoot. I don't think he can be fixed. That split second he holds the ball is the difference between an open shot and not. Plenty of times he could advance the ball yesterday on fast breaks but he likes to dribble it all the way himself. Sengun gets his man pinned under rim and Jalen never makes that pass. It's just why I think he could be a good 6 man spark off the bench but will never take that step to super star.
Im not sure there is a single instance in that video that this would be prevalant . Maybe 1 or 2 plays shown could have been passes and ones "he didnt see in time" but it doesnt make his play a bad read.
I didn't watch the video, I watched the whole game yesterday. Like someone else says those aren't the only times he touched the ball. But just glancing at it briefly play 2 and 3 both shoulda been passes.
Some of you have no patience. I've already shown Jalen Green vs Booker first 3 seasons against one another. Here is Jaylen Brown at age 22 and 23 (2 seasons) vs Jalen Green at age 21 (23/24 season) https://stathead.com//basketball/ve...layer_id2=greenja05&p2yrfrom=2024&p2yrto=2024 Jalen. Green scores more points per 36-minutes and Ast / Ast% crushes Jaylen Brown and Brown was in the league longer at the time
Vernon would have fought Udoka the player. You're a nice guy, too trustworthy though. Udoka has to reinvent himself because his accountability lessons can only do so much. The times when every player is hero balling for their own contract extensions should be coming. And yes Dillon Brooks is merely a black hole on Offense.
such a bad comparison. Why you always looking at offense? If Jalen Green was half the defensive player Jaylen Brown is, I would like him so much better.
While Jalen is still young and learning, I continue to see the same bad habits from his rookie year. Mainly, he relies too much on athleticism and doesn’t let the game come to him. Case in point, he constantly tries to go one on one against guys that know how to defend one on one. And once he starts to go, the defense knows he isn’t gonna passing it, so they converge in the middle to force him into last second crazy shots, which often result in turnovers, getting stripped of the ball, or blocked. I’m still rooting for the Jalen to grow up. Instead of dribbling so much and going on one on one, he needs to learn when to pass, knowing that if he breaks to the basket, he’ll get the ball back for an easy layup. I mean, is it just me or does it seem like he’s working really freaking hard to get a shot off? Too much dribbling with his head down. Not enough team play.
No he did not. He is like 4 years ago in the rookie season. He can shoot and drive to bad defence. During defense intensity he is a chucker and TO machine.
You havent watched a single minute of preseason and if you have my lort.... you have no idea what is happening on the court
Green's stats are going to be extremely inflated. He has pretty much been given the green light to jack up shots for us till Udoka came along. Of course his ppg stats will be higher. Not to mention scoring is just higher in general so you can't compare Green 2023/2024 vs Brown's 2018/2019 seasons.
Jalen has all the tools to be decent to good defender. Quick hands, quick feet, leaping ability..... just been lacking experience: Silas and Dereck Fisher (whoever Ignite coach was at the time) taught him nothing. and Added muscle: growing into his man body (late bloomer) Why am I always talking about offense? Because that's the more difficult thing and it's the thing every team needs to win a championship. The needing two of three stars rule of winning a championship is based on them being predominantly offensive gems......because you can always fill up the rest of the team with defenders. Harden was a one man team......but they brought in CP3 to help run the offense.....but then he got hurt. The defenders of Ariza. Tucker, Luc Mhab a Moute couldn't generate enough offense. That is why Patrick Fertitta went with Micro-Ball. 27 missed 3's but nobody could dribble outside of Harden. What did we win that season? 64 games? I compare what many consider to be the two top Shooting Guards of our time. Jaylen Brown just got paid about $50M per year and barely started in two of his first three years in the league. Jaylen Brown was always being talked about in trade talks until Udoka took over for Brad Stevens. It's been reported that all three of Marcus Smart, Tatum, and Jaylen Brown wanted to be the Alpha. Udoka put them in their pecking order with Tatum at the top. Boston (Udoka time) is the model: Jaylen Brown-Tatum able to get their own shots.....Jalen Green-(Amen/Cam Whitmore) get their own shots. Draw defenders....plural. kick outs or lob pass. Off ball screens and cutting implemented. Horford - Sengun. They are asking Sengun to shoot more 3's. Sengun is suppose to be a younger, more athletic, post up threat, greater usage Horford. The Celtics don't have your conventional point guards. They have used Marcus Smart, Derect White and now Jrue Holiday. These guys get about 3-5 assists a game. Mainly they act as accessory players as 3&D high rated role players. Jalen Green is being trained to pass more and defend. The efficiency will come with the 3-point shooters surrounding him.....just like Tatum and Jaylen Brown when the 3-point shooters were added around them.
So you're saying that 42% vs 47% is like the same or something??? It is a huge difference. That's the point. 42% is not good enough. It's far from being OK.
he's actually proud about 16,. shots per game @ 42% last season, there are 58 players with 15 or more FGA per game of those 58, Jordan Poole and Jalen Green are ranks worst in FG% as bad as a chucker as Wizards Jordan Poole not even close to Jaylen Brown https://www.nba.com/stats/players/t...onType=Regular Season&TeamID=0&dir=D&sort=FGA
Jaylen Brown was 1 & 2 years older in the NBA....Jalen Green hasn't hit that year in his career yet Jaylen Brown started about 25 games year one.......about 24 games year 3. But his defense, mah-defense.
I agree that more often than not, Jalen is making the right decision with the ball .... I made a post last week on the subject. Problem is, he misses far too many of them and teams back off and invite him to take those shots. Most times defenders won't fight over the top of a screen, rather they go under the screen pretty much inviting the outside shot. His defender will usually back off and give up that shot while clogging the paint - some blame Sengun for this but it's Jalen's defender that's dropping back into Sengun's lap. That just wrecks spacing. We all saw the same thing happen to Westbrook and that dude was a league MVP. The two are very similar in that they rely upon sheer athleticism. Westbrook is on a minimum deal in Denver .... I really hope these first two games are not indicative of the season to come for Jalen and that he shoot's something around ~35% consistently - very few 0-6 and 2/17 games.
this is very reasonable take. We desperately need Jalen’s ability to create off the dribble. In order to accentuate his most important skill , he is going to have to be a consistent threat from 3. Ideally this year he will gain that consistency. I firmly believe this is his last season to show improvement in that aspect or he is gone.
Brown stats are when he was established in the league 4th and 5th year averages. Surrounded by talented players that Brad Stevens took to the playoffs year after year. Explain the assist% and assists numbers with players next to him that actually convert their 3's.
