That depends on what they do with both FVV & Jalen. FVV is $44.8m and Green's cap hold is $37.4m. Then there's the cap holds of Adams, Tate & Jeff Green that total ~$62m. They can have cap space if they want it even giving Sengun his 25% max which isn't probable. they are going to want a discount to do it now. They would come in at $114.5m in salary by giving Sengun a max, declining FVV's option and renouncing Green, Tate, Adams & Jeff Green with a cap of $154m. They would also have the option of going at it as an over the cap team and using any of those players as matching salary in a trade on new contracts. They can be players in Either FA and the trade market ..... Stone has done a fantastic job of managing the cap and his options thus far.
I don't think you are wrong at all, but just having the threat of the ability to clear cap space and sign a player outright can also be advantageous - putting pressure on the other team to deal with you or lose that FA for nothing at all. I think it's more likely than not that they are an over the cap team next offseason. There's just so many more options in that scenario - and until you start actually inking deals, you still have the threat of being a cap space team. Stone may have us saying "Morey who?" after next offseason ....
If you are top 40 player in this league, you are a max player. Alpi is top 40. He is clearly a max guy and everyone knows it. The problem is Jalen Green. If alpi gets the max, there is no way jalen accepts a lesser amount. Then he will use his dissatisfaction as an excuse for his poor play. If no one gets the contract and by the time once again its proven that jalen is not a max guy, then there is a chance that he can agree for less. However alpi pushing to get his contract NOW so we will certainly lose Green for nothing. Mark my words
If Jalen is not mature enough to understand he has not earned a max yet then perhaps he does not deserve a max. If Alpi gets a max now Jalen would only be screwing himself if he lets it affect his play. His main goal should be to be consistent so he can EARN a max this season. The team should NOT be concerned with Jalen's feelings or anyone else's for that matter when working on deals for other players who have earned said deal.
Sengun’s free throws are a revelation. His form looks good and they are going in. This is going to add a couple ppg to his scoring average.
