Ball needs to be in his hands when FVV is off the floor. I don't even think he's particularly good right now...the rest of the perimeter guys are just that bad. In his second damn preseason game he already shows better awareness of simple court management. Whitmore in particular shows a comical level of tunnel vision.
Feed Reed. This season its extremely important for players to have defined roles. Players like Holiday and Whitmore shouldn't be bringing the ball up when Reed is on the floor. Rookie or not, Id always be looking for Reed because with the ball in his hands, chances are high I'm either getting an assist or a much easier shot.
Reed and Sengun are the franchise players of the team. Fred is Reed’s training wheels for the next 4 years until he’s ready to take over the reigns. Everyone else can either fit in or get out of the way.
On defense Reed is playing pretty disciplined while also being a ball hawk. I don't know if he can play pure point guard but I see the upside. He doesn't have an amazing first step on offense but his elite shot making forces defenses to react to him. That mid range shot is money in the bank and opens up so much for him. It was nice to see him and Jeff Green on the same page tonight. Shows how he sees the game more like a vet than a rookie.
Whitmore needs to evolve but I'm not seeing any evidence of it yet. What's frustrating is that he is absolutely capable of passing the ball, he just doesn't ever like to do it.
If I was running the show this would be my lineups. Starters: PG - VanVleet SG - Sheppard SF - Brooks PF - Sengun ..C - Adams Bench: PG - Thompson SG - Green SF - Whitmore PF - Eason ..C - Smith Starters have the best chance of spreading the floor and keeping defenses on their toes with that lineup and the bench has the best chance of railroading the opposing bench. The scary thing is how many holes the first 3 Top 4 picks have in their games. They need to be on the bench.
He played with greater confidence in this game. I liked his pass to Tari on the break, and his mid range jumpers. His 3 pointer was nice too.
