@Salvy Oh the woke hate JK Rowling, she's the opposite of Kathleen Kennedy, All the stuff she makes is profitable and beloved by everybody who's not woke. She's makes billions not losing billions
@AroundTheWorld I heard the gaming industry is not doing well with the wokeness. oh wait, what happened last year?
You know, I don't really care about this - at all - it is like less than what 1/10th of 1% - just meaningless...... Waste of brain cycles. DD
I strongly believe than the actual number of long term transsexuals is more than 1:30,000…. However I believe it isn’t 1:33 - there is a degree of social contagion.
Reminds me of how some women would seek attention by claiming they swing the other way when tipsy but don't do much sober or even drunk. It could be a form of thrill or even power seeking pretending or convincing yourself to be a form of protected class. Or maybe it's just a phase. 1 in 33 to 30000 is a crazy range to form a credible number, but numbers are usually opaque for what was once a taboo or stigmatized field of study. It's for that same reason that it's wise to be skeptical of those experts who act so certain of their claims.
I don't know what the numbers might be. But, I wonder how the numbers looked for homosexuals in the 1950s to today. Sexual variance and gender variance are probably under reported in general because of how those people are treated (just look at this thread). Society has come a long way, but still has a long way to go for people just being accepted for who they are in their brain.
You ask a good question and I don't have an answer for you. I can comment some on homosexuality, there is no question that there are more people that would claim they are homosexual than in the 1950's. However - we cannot even now agree on what being homosexual is now. One of my friends of nearly 40 years has had sex with men, off and on for close to 30 years. However, he has long term relationships with women and does not consider himself to be bi-sexual or homosexual. He believes because it is literally only sex with zero emotional attachment it is not sleeping with a man. He isn't homophobic, and while he doesn't regularly discuss his activities - he doesn't deny them either - he just doesn't view himself as anything other than heterosexual.... doesn't bother me, I don't even think about it unless someone who doesn't know asks if I know. However, to some people the label put on him is really important. As for transexuals - I don't think it is as bizarre as some people think. Maybe because I know and deeply care about people that are trans. I will say I don't like the way transexuals are depicted on social media. All you see on social media are people with extreme positions. The trans people I know do not flip out if someone accidently misgenders them or if someone is ignorant and doesn't know the proper way to address them. One of my friends was born male and has lived as female for 15 years. People can tell that she was born a male - and she is very cognizant of that and will go out of her way to not make people uncomfortable. Another friend was born a female - and now he gets a lot of attention as a male - lots of women are attracted to him - but I honestly never thought of him as a she - also he will admit that his transition was WAY easier being a female becoming a male than my other friend. The taboo around it seems to be getting better - and based on those I know, their lives are better than 10 years ago because more people seem to be accepting. We have a long way to go - and I don't doubt there are transgendered people out there afraid to express themselves - but I think that the actual numbers are less than 1:33 - but I just base that on my experiences and what trans people I know tell me.
Yeah - I have no doubt thar the number is way higher than 1:30,000. However, the research is really very new on the topic.
