I'd take him as a DC ASAP. Elite defensive mind. Then hopefully Demeco can worry more about game management.
I think he can only get a ‘defensive analyst’ gig right now. Which I’m ok with. But I guarantee you Kyle is gonna ring him up at years end. Pray the Colts don’t make an offer for his services.
Why would Saleh take this? He doesn't have anything to gain. He's already going to be the top DC candidate next season. Nothing he can do here will convince somebody to give him another HC gig either. He's better off collecting his remaining guaranteed salary and relaxing on the beach somewhere until the offseason.

He went into a situation with mediocre expectations and ended up being put in a no-win meat-grinder when they traded for Aaron Rodgers. If the Jets did well, A-Rod would make sure he got all the credit and if they failed, the ax would fall on Saleh. Not saying Saleh is a great head coach, but he was doomed to be a whipping boy once the self-important jerk joined the team.
This just triggers a thought about advance game planning as a Coaching position. THE DC is working on the upcoming games and having a specific responsibility to begin early game planning for game ahead which are not the upcoming opponent would seem like an innovation. Something like OC, DC, STC and AGC as Coaching Positions.
I suspect he doesn't put his contract at risk after being fired as head coach. But an advisory role or advance coach seems like a natural. It does not prevent him from pursuing any better job and he stays working. I just love collecting TALENT as long as they can get along. (flashbacks to Buddy Ryan)
So, when the Jets fired Saleh last week, it became easy to wonder if he’d be interested in helping Ryans and the Texans in some way. Of course, the most intriguing way he could assist his buddy would be to give intel on the Jets, who the Texans play on Halloween night. It’s a question SportsRadio 610's Seth Payne posed to Nick Caserio on the Texans general manager’s 45-minute appearance on “Payne & Pendergast” on Wednesday morning. “Last time I checked, we live in America,” Caserio joked about the possibility of Ryans and Saleh communicating. That prompted an excited, “Damn right, Caserio!” from Seth Payne, whose playing career with the Texans overlapped with Saleh’s Houston tenure, which included time as a defensive intern, defensive quality control coach and assistant linebackers coach. “I don’t think we’re going to see anything like that, you don’t have to worry about that,” Caserio said. “Robert’s a really good coach,” Caserio said. “Robert did a really good job with their program. He’s very well thought of in the league. So, a lot of respect for him and what he did for the Jets and what he did here for the Texans organization as well. What conversations take place, those are up to the people involved. I’m not going to get fined for saying anything that I shouldn’t say.” Before the Texans played the Jets last season, Ryans credited his friend for getting him into coaching. “I learned a lot from Saleh and owe a lot to him, and that’s probably the reason why I’m standing here before you: because of him just taking me under his wing and teaching me the ropes,” Ryans said in December 2023. “Much credit to Saleh for that. “Just great, great man off the field — great man. Great father, great husband — just a really stand-up guy that I have the utmost respect for.”
The Jets and the fans were delusional. There was and is no way Rodgers could live up to the delusion. Neither Can Adams. They have been trying to buy the past, instead of looking to the present, or investing in the future. Grand delusion. And now they have doubled down. I don't know what Saleh is, or could be, but the expectations were out of whack.
