Well we have a solid young core Houston, but it will be danged near impossible to keep all of them, so as an excercise in fun, whom do you think is still around in 3 or 4 years, which of our 7 core pieces will remain?

    Right now our Core is:

    Jalen Green
    Alpi Sengun
    Jabari Smith
    Tari Eason
    Amen Thompson
    Cam Whitmore
    Reed Sheppard

So, with the cap, it is probably not possible to keep them all together long term, so whom in your opinion will still be here......I believe these 5 will be the ones we build around.

Jabari Smith - PF - not max contract
    Alpi Sengun - C - Max contract
Amen Thompson SF - Not Max
Reed Sheppard - PG - Max contract
Tari Eason -SF - Not max

That is a solid offensive and defensive core with good rebounding as well.

I think we will trade Jalen this year, and either Cam or Tari in a future year - I think it will be Cam as we can't afford to have all those guys paid and the 5 above ..but I could see Cam stay and Tari traded if that works...

What do you guys think....it could be that only 2 stay, or 3, or 4......this is all for giggles.....obviously we will all root for whomever stays.....maybe all 7 - pretty unlikely I think.

    Sengun, Amen, Reed, Jabari.

We need a consistent wing/SG that can operate off ball and shoot 40+ from 3 to accent this core. Hopefully Cam becomes this but I struggle at times with his game feel. He'd be perfect if he does.

Sengun, Amen, Cam, Jabari, and Reed ( although he MIGHT not be a starter)

Jalen gets dealt before this year's deadline.

And, Tari is either injured or traded.

I feel most comfortable that Alpi, Amen and Reed will be core members of the Rockets in 3-4 years.

Probably a couple of the others too, but not sure which.

IMO, it would have been better to close the poll Sunday and make it a pre-season snapshot of opinion. Then do it again after ~20 games.

No idea. I guess it depends how they do this year. Nobody is irreplaceable in my eyes. It's not like we have anyone who is the best at their position.

    1. Reed Sheppard
    2. Alperen Sengun
    3. Amen Thompson
    4. Tari Eason

Jalen Green - Consistency in the beginning of the Season, 80% of his Shots should be Midrange, Layup, Floaters. Catch and Shoot 3 pointers. Create Assists for others, Pick and Roll with Alperen Sengun.

Cam Whitmore - Lack of Speed on Defense and Passing IQ in Half Court, His Health is the bigger Question, his broken leg plate and screws, can he absorb and play heavy minutes and play 82 games.

Underwhelming/ Don't believe in His Ball handling or IQ

Surprised that Tari's vote count is so low considering that in terms of impact he he top 3 of our young core. Our second best defender who could become elite defensively. Has a good enough 3 ball that I would expect to continue to improve. Tenacious rebounding. Non stop motor. He won't cost a ton of money to retain. And we have a coach who places defense and effort first.

If there any fans left who care about trying to win a ring, we will need high role players like Eason to make this work. He's obviously our most underrated player, but I can't see a scenario where he isn't with this team in 3 to 4 years.

It's hard to project longevity on a player that can't stay healthy.

If he stays healthy and plays well this season, more will believe in him

None of them is safe, because if Stone is still here, he will ruthlessly trade whoever the other side wants, in order to get a superstar.

If he can't get a superstar, the most likely cap casualty is Green. Most expendable trade asset likely to be valued by bad teams is Whitmore. Most expendable trade asset likely to be valued by good teams is Eason. Most likely casualty of a team-concept decision is Sengun, just because he's a unique player and harder to build a conventional team around.

If I get to pick, I'm keeping Sengun for the fun of being an unconventional team. And everybody else is expendable, depending on what's offered.

Perfect post, except I would switch Sengun w Thompson. Thompson has 3 more years at rookie contract. I love Sengun, but if there is an upgrade in the future via trade, his salary will be the kicker even more than his play vs Thompson.

Lock to be core - Sengun
More likely to be key player than not - Sheppard, Jabari. I will note I think Sheppard has more ceiling than Jabari, but Jabari's floor makes him unlikely to be traded or out of the rotation.
50/50 to be core - Amen, Cam, Tari. Amen and Cam because they have higher potential for bust than those above, even if I believe they also have higher ceiling, especially Amen. Tari I'm hesitant until he's shown he's over his injuries
I'd bet against it - Jalen. He has only one year to prove himself so odds are against him.
