To be fair, if you only counted innings where a pitcher gave up a run, everyone would have an ERA of at least 9. He was good in 2020 too, it's all mental with him and we know he can do better. Which is what makes it so frustrating.
I never once said it was all his fault, but when you’re going against Skubal, you’ve got to be better. You can’t let your team get down 3-0 early.
Jeff Bagwell didn't make the decision to retain Montero or target Abreu - that was the plan with Crane, and actually Click before he left. Bagwell can be blamed for not hitting Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine better in the playoffs - but even that isn't easy. Back in the day I wouldn't want to be in front or behind his Explorer on the freeway after games though....
Skubal is absurdly great and if you’re gonna give that pitch off the corner than it’s like facing Glavine all over again
Skubal would be at 101 pitches if the stros wouldn't have lifted the bats from their shoulders in the 1st and 5th
Yeah - the best pitcher in baseball this year, pitched like the best pitcher in baseball today. Those types of guys - the top 3-5 pitchers in baseball are invaluable, especially in short series...... Johnson/Schilling ..... Kevin Brown against the Astros. When you have a guy that has a 50% chance to throw 6-7 innings scoreless - you have to love your chances.
If there's anything the recent run of Astros baseball has taught us, it's easy to hit "good" pitching in October if you're built for the moment. The 1996 and 1999 Yankees didn't find it hard to light them up at all.
