    You're right, my mother's high school had a swim team in the fifties under the bball court I assume like in It's A Wonderful Life.

    She went to Wheatley in Houston's fifth ward

    My parents put in this summer program at Texas Southern about four summers. They had different activities including swimming.

    I wasn't a good swimmer. It was a government sponsored program, a lot of kids from pre gentrified 3rd Ward were there but kids from a lot of neighborhoods all black

    One year a kid about 13 was there, he was a really good swimmer, he spoke about it in a program in front of everyone. At least 100 kids, he displayed medals he' won he was muscularly very well defined.
    I wasn't jealous, he was cool

    Edit: he was very well spoken pretty sure midlife class

    Sure, maybe. But it's very easy to make assumptions and get the story wrong with the very limited information we have.
