I was in the audience last night. It's amazing how much they blow off the (better) jokes on the cue cards in favor of sloppy improv. Especially Affleck (who was horrible except for his Carville, which was decent) and Horatio Saenz. I thought the escalator sketch was the best, but it was funnier as written than as performed. That said, the writing on this show is so bad it's incredible. I also went to the after party and that couldn't have been more boring. Had a beer and left. On the plus side, I got to see Tina Fey up close and personal. She's dreamy.
you just described jimmy fallon! i didnt see this week, and i think amy poeler is funny but i cant imagine her doing the news. but considering that jimmy fallon was her predecesor is it really that big a drop-off?
Comedy Central doesn't carry SNL anymore. E! has them now, and you will probably see the rerun on NBC before it's on E!.
It was really exciting to be there in person after watching on TV for more than 25 years. I just wish it'd been funnier. Ben Affleck's a lump. My girlfriend's roommate works for Lorne Michaels. Saturday afternoon she called us and asked if we'd like to go. The whole operation (apart from the writing) is really impressive. The camera work, quick changes (set, costume, makeup) and the general vibe is really cool. I also met John McCain's daughter after the taping and talked to her for a while. Got some serious scoop, but I probably shouldn't post it to the board. If anyone's interested, email me through the board.
wow, that sounds like fun. my wife and i have talked about going to see SNL for years. would love to do it someday. affleck was good as carville, though!! my wife said that was the best role he had played since Good Will Hunting!
I'm a big Affleck fan. Surviving Christmas looks hilarious! "It's the squeaky stair. We used to call this the squeaky stair. hahahaha."
If you're familiar with the Bit Torrent sharing format, then Suprnova.org should have it pretty soon.
Man that must have been incredible! I've been a fan of this show basically since the very beginning. I've always said the first thing I'd do if I went to NY would be to get some SNL tickets (along with Letterman, but he's not what he used to be). Just seeing the same stage where so many legends have performed must have been amazing in and of itself. I've heard the stage is MUCH smaller than it looks on TV. True? I missed the show this weekend. Sounds like it wasn't that great. SNL is in a down cycle right now, but IMO as long as Lorne Michaels is still in charge, it will make a comeback eventually. It always does.
Not really. First you download a BitTorrent client like BitComet or Azureus . IMO BitComet is more user-friendly but Azureus seems faster. So whatever. Then you go to a BT links site like Suprnova.org , search for the "tracker file" aka "torrent" of the show or music album or program that you want. Download the torrent and open it with your BT Client. Your BT Client should handle the rest. It's not that difficult. Just know that it's standard etiquette to upload at least as much as you download. So after you've downloaded your item, keep your client open, until your "Upload/Download Ratio" is at least 1.
The debate bit was the worst 9 minutes of television I have ever witnessed..endless. Before the show started my wife asked me if Alec Baldwin was hosting. Since my 'Affleck' synapse wouldn't fire I said, " no it that Baldwin Junior guy" Lo and behold they did the bit where Affleck was taking all of Baldwins moves. I thought the show was only fair, I just don't see anybody in this cast with a break-out personality or character that can carry the show. However, Affleck's Carville was blow beer out your nose funny. If anybody finds the skit posted in-line anywhere I'd love to see it again. His reply to Damond on Update was pretty ballsy too.
m_cable what you have described seems really simple compared to what I have heard before. When I return home from work I will try it out. Thanks!
