In case some of y'all missed the sizzling discussion of steaks in some of the other threads I thought we could assimilate all thoughts here and of course drop a random comment on the Rockets to keep it honest. I'll start. Anything over medium-rare is a crime and you shouldn't be permitted to buy the damn meat. I know that's an inflammatory remark and I respect your right to destroy a great ribeye or filet but F you for doing it. Y'all may Proceed.
This thread may be moved or merged, but I'll chime in. Thanks to my mother, I grew up thinking anything under medium-well could make you sick. While at a restaurant in my early 30s, it came to my mind I've never heard of anybody getting sick eating a steak cooked less than medium-well. I ordered a medium ribeye (which still remains my favorite) and immediately realized my mother misled me. I've since graduated to medium-rare. IMO, anything over medium is just crazy because you lose so much flavor and texture that it makes eating the steak pointless. All of my friends who eat medium-well and well-done steaks are close-minded and refuse to even try medium. Pathetic! Lastly, the crime to me is using steak sauce on a ribeye. LOL, may as well use ketchup. Using steak sauce proves you don't even like the flavor of steak. Just order a burger and save yourself some money. Favorite sides are asparagus and mushrooms. Golden potatoes also work.
My wife was raised on well done pan seared sirloins that her mom would cook and hated steaks because of it. It wasn't until we started dating and she came over to my dad's for dinner one night and he cooked a ribeye with our family marinade (no trade secrets) and cooked it rare-medium rare that she knew what a steak was supposed to taste like and loved it. 20+ years later steak is her number one choice for a nice dinner. Just can't beat a good steak. . . Combined with a good Rockets game. Our go to sides are asparagus, loaded baked potato and a Caesar salad. Aaaand you gotta have a Malbec. Any Malbec will do, they're all good.
Rockets and steak are two things that I like. A+ thread, will read again. Here's a steak I prepared earlier:
Disappointed this isn’t a thread about a massive grill out and watch party for the first preseason game.
Jalen Green is a perfectly seared round steak that the waiter told you was a filet mignon. The knife cuts, but it's requiring a bit more effort than expected. The first bite hits your tongue, the essence of beef, perhaps butter basted, is intriguing. However, it's tough, so you chew and chew and chew, and three years later, you're not sure you can give it a long term contract.
I actually prefer medium but half the time I tell people medium rare because I know they'll over cook it.
If the players were steaks I would say Fred VV is a chuck roast, Amen a wagu denver cut, and Sengun and filet mignon. They told me Jabari was prime rib but I think I got a t-bone. I'm not totally unhappy with a t-bone. A steak is a steak, but I wanted a prime rib.
