"you should be grateful we're dumping thousands of immigrants from third world dumpster fires into your small town! it's saving you from decline!"

weird how they aren't being relocated to Martha's Vineyard

Is Martha's vineyard having a manufacturing labor shortage issue due to things like the opioid crisis?

How can you not see how you aren't racist? You have to think of these immigrants as lesser humans to think that they are harming Springfield.

Agreed, but there nuance to that. You don't need a tourist visa if you're Canadian for example, but no one cares if we're being flooded by Canadian overstayers and that's not really an issue because it's easy to go back and forth and stay for 6 months. People from other countries like Israel and Australia can stay here for 3 months without a visa. So there is a preference based on foreign policy. The list is here: https://www.dhs.gov/visa-waiver-program-requirements

So it's possible that we can have a flood of poor Germans who can afford plane tickets but nothing else overstaying their 90-day period in the US. That is a possibility. And that's illegal entry, but they can always claim asylum once here.

Still, people from the vast majority of countries out there need visas. That's the security check. It's not just about the plane ticket, but also about are you a criminal, are you trying to move here secretly, do you have money, do you have family. Most people in the world cannot get a visa to come to the US. So, the workaround is fly to a Latin American country that is enemies with the US (Nicaragua, Venezuela, etc.) and come in through the southern border to claim asylum and get work for 3 years until you can get a hearing date than you might skip. This is why we're making deals with Panama and El Salvador and Mexico to help us. El Salvador has banned Africans who don't have return flights because the US has asked them to. I think Indians too. Every country was catching on to the asylum loophole.

Republicans are intentionally making the situation worse, this is their MO.

    They sabotaged ACA.
    They sabotaged immigration
They sabotaged basic government functions through their shutdowns (they never do it when a GOP is president)

The entire point is to make things worse so they can turn around and say "see".

You are missing a major reason. It is much easier to stop someone from crossing a border illegally than it is to catch a visa overstay. Everyone that is moving from one country to another outside a port of entry is crossing a border illegally. If you see them do it, then case closed. With a visa overstay, it requires law enforcement contact with someone who is not visibly committing an immigration related crime and a check of their immigration status. That means, generally, that they have to be committing another crime, and on top of that, that law enforcement has to check their immigration status and report it to the federal government (and there are states and cities that specifically refuse to do that).
No, it was pretty terrible. Listened to it on audiobook to see what people were so wound up about. It was terrible writing, a nonsense story, and had no real redeeming values. Beyond the abject racism and antisemitism, it was just pretty stupid. Why do you ask? Did you think it was weird for an American to bring up 9/11?

I'm not talking about the practicality of any enforcement policy. I'm talking about why I think there is so much more anger towards the concept of border crossers than visa overstayers. It's much easier to visualize the latter (plus racism plus classism). So yes, I agree that any policy that stops for former is much more difficult to implement than the latter.

In fact, I just read this Biden plan, which looks a lot like Trump COVID era plans. It's going to be sued by the immigration rights lawyers, but we'll see what happens. It's easier (Constitutionally) to change the law.

Yea, we DID talk about this. Seems like ages ago :).

The reason this has come up again is because of the recent attack on Haitian migrants. Why does it matter? They are here legally and welcomed by the local government. They help revitalize a town that needed more residents, and that town is experiencing economic growth because of them. So what’s the issue? Yeah... it’s about racism.

And no, this one example doesn’t mean the same situation applies generally to the southern border versus overstayed visas, but it does specifically apply to the Trump/Vance ticket running for president.

Explain why you are against a town that asked for legal immigrants to help "stem population losses" and safeguard itself from economic instability, especially when it has accomplished that. Would you prefer that town to suffer economically just to keep these legal immigrants out?

2014- the dying town of Springfield unanimously approved a resolution last week that calls for the city to adopt policies that promote the inclusion and integration of immigrants in the community. A proactive approach toward immigrants also can stem population losses that threaten economic stability, the resolution says.

2023 - For the first time in city history, the assessed tax valuation topped $1 billion for 2023, Eviston said to commissioners last week. The previous year’s total was $864 million. Eviston attributed the more than 15% increase year-over-year in tax revenues to the growing tax base being generated by increased property values and the significant economic development the city is experiencing. “The evidence is the city is growing and the value of real estate is growing,” Commissioner David Estrop said. “That’s excellent.”

    Every day.

These are the people leftists have been mass importing.

Rational objection to this led to the leftists calling you a bigot and a Nazi.

Another day another Western city has fallen to the caliphate. Well I guess it’s off to US Bank mosque since Minneapolis fell years ago. It’s time to worship for the holy Jihad against the infidel Packers.

They might not want too many of Canadians. They’ll be forcing people to watch hockey and eat Tim Hortons.
