Tried the emulator thing and having a blast playing these old wii games and game cube games. They only take up like 1-2 gbs of space.
I've put my Steam collection library on hold. I did purchase Robocop: Rogue city. It's finally on 60% sale.

I enjoyed that game. New Game+ once you've unlocked all the upgrades is fun.

Did you end up buying Ara? I've been watching reviews on Steam since its release and they've been "Mixed" (literally). I may wait to see if the reviews improve or something. I jumped on the Humankind bandwagon as soon as it came out, but learned my lesson with that one.

I did buy it, but have barely played it, yet. Just doing the tutorial seems like there is a lot involved. There's a fine line between having more control and also having to do too much micromanaging. I haven't played enough to know which side of this line the game falls on.

I do believe it will be enjoyable finding that out just based on what I've done so far. I also expect that my opinion may change as I eventually learn the most important things to track vigorously and which to only check on periodically.

The one thing that scares me is that I have only one city so far. I'm a little intimidated by having to do this level of micromanaging multiple cities. The added attention to detail could be really fun, it depends on how much time and focus I will need going into a play session.

I have heard about Humankind but haven't played it.

Well, I finally finished BG3 and it was, as everyone said, a damn good game. I didn't feel the "wow" as I did in the original 2 games, but despite that, it was still a really good game. Act 3 was a bit disjointed and had some storyline bugs in it. Is till say most of the bosses are a bit weak. Even the final uber-boss I didn't think was all that. Two or 3 of the peeps in my party (one of whom was a follower, not a real party member) took the final boss out by themselves due to a mistake on my part where my other party members hadn't arrived yet. lol.

Any of you folks played Old World? I'm thinking about buying that to hold me over until Civ VII arrives since it's on sale for about $20. Will also probably get Diablo IV + expansion, as well.

Picked up Hogwartz Legacy for $20. Great combat system. Solid immersion. Well worth the money. Fun. Play it on hard and it does not disappoint. 9/10

Started a replay of this earlier in the week. I am going to let my wizard, Anything Fromdatrolly, embrace the dark arts. I look forward to casting Crucio on goblins until they explode.

I played Metaphor: ReFantazio. It was fine. I enjoyed it, though I'm getting the feeling that I'm either growing out of these games or Atlus maybe needs to change things up more (at least for me). Even if some things objectively seem better than previous titles, it didn't seem to have a great impact on me.

    I played Starcom: Unknown Space:

I probably mentioned the previous game at some point, or maybe even this game in passing during its early release. Anyway, I really like both games. Not masterpieces or super amazing games, but really solid games that offer stuff I don't really see from other developers. This is one of those games that's pretty much made by just one guy. Think he said sales were like 20K-30K, which was good for him. That just blows my mind given ballooning budgets elsewhere in the industry.

Speaking of which, I gave Star Citizen another check in. They had their annual conference thing, and they showed off a long video from Squadron 42 (now a 2026 release because sure):

I tried the MMO, and in some ways, it has made huge strides since I last played...and it is still unplayable garbage that just isn't fun. I heard some say they messed up the current release because they were crunching to prepare for this annual show, and maybe that's the case, but regardless they clearly haven't fixed their management issues. It is a shame because I can *feel* something amazing here, but I have doubts it will ever come to fruition.

Doing a dive into the Alan Wake franchise (including Control). Mostly watching videos online for now, but might play some as a replay later. These are really good (at least from a narrative standpoint). Not that my opinion matters much (especially for a series which already won so many awards), but they definitely have my seal of approval for whatever that's worth. It is a shame I waited so long to check them out. There's one sequence in AW2 which is probably a top 5 moment in gaming (at least in recent memory).

I'm always several years behind when it comes to games, but right now I am playing Axiom Verge. I like platorm "metroidvania" games and this one is a nice throwback, reminds me of Bionic Commando and Metroid for the NES.

I haven't been able to find anything from this genre that even comes close to Hollow Knight though. The sequel, Silk Song, seems to be stuck in development hell.

Finally had enough time to dive into Ara. For me it took all the way into third act before I felt comfortable with all of the different details of optimizing my resources, building strategies, gaining the bonuses etc.

I probably don't really have it all done, but I finally feel at least proficient. I also don't micromanage as much as I possibly could. I think my civilization would benefit slightly but time investment would be more than would be worthwhile IMO. Some folks might love the micromanaging.

The positive that I will say, is that micromanaging isn't a requirement for success.

The game is definitely fun and a worthwhile game not too far off in enjoyment to the Civilization franchise.

I'm looking forward to starting a new game with a different leader and my increased understanding of the game.

12 Years and $700 Million Later, What’s Going on With Star Citizen’s Development?

As of 2022, according to its financials, the company has spent $637 million on development, with 2020 – 2022 averaging over $106 million a year. Assuming that the company continues spending around $100+ million a year, it doesn’t take a mathematician to realize that the $790 million raised so far at the time of writing is on the verge of, or has likely, run out. It’s an assumption felt by both current and former employees at the company, who say they have been experiencing the effects of apparent dwindling funds these past 12 months.

I am still part owner of Star Citizen - they are fine.

They have also taken in nearly 200m in private investment.

Sq 42 looks amazing, that video was incredible....yes they are taking too long and yes they have 1100 employees....and burn people out (Why I left)......but in the end, this is Chris' vision and his game - he will either go down as one of the greatest to do it......or one of the biggest failures ever....

I will bet he comes out of this with an amazing product and a big old told ya so....because in the end, Gamers think they know....but they don't have a flipping clue about what it takes to make a good game.....

So, you get a lot of b****ing by fanboys - who haven't put in the time or effort to understand the full process, but boy will they sure b**** and moan.....

If folks would pay attention, there is a lot of stuff going right there, along with a lot wrong, but that is a story for another day.

    LOL

I agree with parts of this, though also strongly disagree in part. I say this as a day 1 backer and someone who has generally been a defender of the project (including the type that *loves* watching the tech breakdowns from various devs during CitizenCon).

I don't think Star Citizen is a ponzi scheme or anything like that. If I was going to be charitable to that argument, I'd possibly say the marketing team has created problems by pushing development to work on all these new ships and stuff (which helps fund the game), and that prolonged development of the game in a bad way (especially when they need to sell ships with functionality that doesn't yet exist in the game). "We need to delay work on the next set of features because we need a new slate of ships to bring in $5M to keep the lights on!" I don't think it works literally like that, but there's probably some kernel of truth in that approach if you wanted to push the idea of this being a ponzi scheme. Though I really just think this is a horribly mismanaged project.

I think there is a lot of great tech in the game, and the level of immersion is such that no other game comes close. *If* they could manage to connect everything together and polish everything appropriately, I think it would be an amazing experience.

But at this point, I just don't think that's particularly likely. Especially anytime soon. There are so many half-baked features with another dozen or so features still to come, and they really just don't take the time to build things properly the first time (e.g., the cargo stuff comes to mind for me). They keep promising things or doing these little tech demos at these conferences, then never touch them again for another year or 2 (see CitizenCon 2023 and promises made then). CR has been a bit better about not making promises, but the team itself still routinely does this kind of stuff.

And again...just to repeat...it still isn't very fun. After 12+ years. It looks cool, and sometimes you can get a play cycle with no bugs, everything working as intended, 100% immersive experience, etc., and yet I'd rather just play this small indie game from a guy who spent 2 years and maybe $100K-$500K working on his game.

I do think Squadron 42 has a chance to be pretty good, though given the development time and resources, I think that should be expected at this point. While the trailer was great, I think they have a lot of work to do (especially in terms of "tightening up the graphics"). Honestly I care more about the single player stuff than the MMO stuff anyway, and part of me wishes they focused on these core basics sooner (i.e., let's make a fun game) vs having to reinvent how MMOs fundamentally work from a tech perspective (with complex stuff like server meshing and whatnot).

I'd love to be wrong because this still remains to be the type of game I want to play. I raved about X4 a bit earlier, which does some of the things Star Citizen is attempting to do (except X4 actually released and is fun, even if it isn't as pretty). I mostly tuned out of the patch-to-patch developments with the game years ago, so I'm not as close to the community these days, but I get the sense they're pretty tired of this process as well. They'll probably be fine, but I suppose there's a chance the community will no longer throw money at every new ship, and over time, perhaps that will cause some funding problems (even if they seemingly are good for now). We'll just have to wait and see.

Finally started playing Diablo 4 ... what a glorious, mindless, grid of a lootfest. Some things never change. A couple of the cutscenes were pretty awesome in the main storyline.

Playing Planet Crafter right now. Having a blast with it. It is very addicting...although it is somewhat a slow-burn in the beginning.

I feel sorry for anyone that ever backed this garbage. Only ones enjoying it are the developers as they keep sucking money out of people.
