Eh/ I’d rather pay Juan Soto than Abreu, Montero, Graveman and a guy like Conforto. If you don’t have bad contract then you are just fine with having one supersized one.
Jose Fleury Quincy Hamilton Joey Mancini Collin Price Alex Santos Nic Swanson Alejandro Torres They'll be playing for the Surprise Saguaros along with prospects from the Orioles, Guardians, Rangers, and Royals.
Sugarland won their first playoff game in convincing fashion 14-2. Blubaugh pitched 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs. The bullpen was perfect for 3.1 innings - ho hits, no walks. The offense generated 14 hits, led by Hummel with 4. Cabbage and Melton had home runs. Overall a great start to the PCL Championship.
A bunch of meh. Sending Hamilton from AAA is weak. I will be watching what Santos, Fleury, and Mancini do.
**** all these MLB draft analysts who think we have a shitty farm. It's ****ing awesome and I give all credit to the Astros scouts who find these diamonds in the rough that fit our system.
While I agree with the overall point of that tweet, Houston’s current AAA roster is stocked with a lot of AAAA veterans. Omar Narvaez, Trey Cabbage, and Cooper Hummel, Wander Suero, Rafael Montero, Nick Hernandez, Seth Martinez, Connor Greene, and Luis Contreras were key pieces of Houston’s AAA championship run and none of them are prospects. But the ability to fill in organizational holes with productive marginal talents has been a key reason Houston’s farm has continued to produce despite the reduced resources. I really, really like where this farm system is at considering they’re still processing the loss of draft picks and in the midst of a 8+ year run of late draft picks and buyer deadlines.
Has to be a bittersweet couple of games for him. Playing good is always nice...but he was pretty damn close to having MLB postseason game checks. Has to be a rough way to close out what was otherwise an immensely successful season for him.
Let's imagine a scenario. Where Dezenzo was the 5th overall pick in the draft, Will Wagner was drafted 2nd overall like Dustin Ackley(a similar batter who was twice ranked in top 12 overall prospects by Baseball America) and Miguel Ullola was the top signing bonus and #1 international prospect instead of signing for $75,000.....they would all have been firmly in the top 50 of any mid season ranking this year. There's just too much dependence on where someone got drafted or the bonus they got and not the play on the field. JP Crawford and Jeremy Pena are other good examples. Crawford gets to start in the top 25 rankings until he shows for 2 or 3 years straight that he shouldn't be there. Pena starts down at 200 u til he shows 2 or 3 years straight he should be up there higher. Pena has been a much better pro. The rankings were based entirely on where drafted, nothing to do with results in the minor leagues. It was just humorous to watch at one point, but now it could affect us getting draft picks or not depending on where our rookies finish in the rookie of the year voting. Yainer wasn't in the top 100 of enough lists, which was ridiculous, to get us draft compensation had he won rookie of the year
