What is it with some in the GOP and their fetishization and fondness for Hitler and Nazi's.

It isn't all of the GOP, and not even most of the GOP - it seems to be those that are aligned with MAGA.

All I can guess is that they admire the level or power and control he had? Because he was a totalitarian fascist?

IDK but it is bizarre for sure.

Those random people are unhinged minority of GOP voters.

What I'm more concerned about with Hitler and the GOP, is how many GOP voters think Hitler is evil because he wanted public healthcare rather than his nativist white supremacy rhetoric. That actually is a significant chunk of the GOP base.

Hating Hitler is ingrained in American zeitgeist because we fought a massive war against his regime costing thousands of American lives and because of that a normal American conservative can't come out fawning Hitler. They just have to hate Hitler for all the wrong reasons. That is more concerning because it creates a giant blind spot for them where they don't see fascism rising in their own backyard because they've been conditioned to believe the term "socialist" is why Hitler was evil.

    I'm sure you are.

That whole "women not voting", and ****ing his sister-in-law and three times filing bankruptcy, owing taxes, paying for an abortion and being a general grifter is just standard operating procedure for MAGA in 2024. The Nazi obsession is just a cherry on top.

In normal times, aka pre maga, I think he would have been shamed into stepping down, but now the maga playbook is to call it a witch hunt and then lie about what really happened and then deflect, deflect and deflect. And now trump won't even acknowledge this clown.......let's face it, when you lost trump you really did something bad.............all the previous remarks by this guy were already horrible, but I guess its the trans p*rn that really lost maga. Hitler remarks ok, Slavery talk is ok...............but trans p*rn is where we draw the line LOL

One candidate will facilitate mass migration from the third world, the other won't.

The choice is obvious if you are voting based on preferred policy outcomes (the only rational criteria).

Of course, most voters are highly regarded.

At what point does the quality of candidate matter - or does it never matter? (I am not being a dick - it is a real question and I don't have an answer myself).

It is a philosophical question that I really don't have an answer for - and I will freely admit that it is easy to say you won't support or vote for a candidate that you do not agree with politically.

It matters more in a primary election where there is less variation in policy outcomes between the various options.

Pre-MAGA he never would have gotten this far. The GOP would have vetted him and he would not receive the political or financial support that he has. However, after Trump won in 2016 - against a weak field in the GOP and a GOP with a power vacuum, they have adjusted how they choose their leaders. This isn't ALL bad - a proponent of the current GOP would say this is classic "will of the people" and that everyone should have a chance to run and win.

The Democrats still do it the way both parties did for a long time - their candidates are vetted typically and they still need support from the DNC power brokers to have a chance to win. The brokers are NOT absolute, Obama jumped Hilary Clinton for instance - but they still got her a shot in 2016.

We are going to be in a weird spot - because if Trump wins this election, I expect the DNC power structure to greatly change, and we may well start seeing candidates for the DNC with the same type of warts and background in the GOP.

Right - but do you believe that is happening at the primary level?

It seems to me that we have polar opposites - a GOP that is perhaps too open and forgiving of personal conduct, and a DNC that has too much control over candidate choice.

I remember when Sarah Palin was considered crazy and far out there for a republican…she would be beyond normal in today’s GOP cesspit…hell, she’d probably be a RINO

now the likes of MTG, Boebert, Mark Robinson, Matt Gaetz, Herschell Walker, Doug Mastriano, etc easily win their primaries and are stars within the party…they have Royce White as their Minnesota Senate candidate and are still trotting out Kari Lake

if David Duke ran again, he’d win a republican primary by 30+ points

all u need for qualifications is to be certified Trump dick rider and say Democrats/other groups are the enemy and cause of all your problems…it’s as simple as that

A defiant Mark Robinson declared today that he will fight on in his bid to become North Carolina's next Governor, and said he was going to pursue legal action against CNN.

Yesterday, virtually his entire campaign team announced that they had resigned. He has not replaced any of them yet. The Republican Governor's Association also just announced that they are pulling all funding for ads from his race. Meanwhile, Robinson's staunchest supporter Donald Trump remains silent. Robinson was told to stay away from Trump's rally in North Carolina yesterday.

In his statement to reporters today, Robinson first addressed his staffing issues:

"We're getting resumes from all over. We're getting offers from all over. People are jumping in to help us .. A lot of talented people right now are reaching out to us and we're right in the process right now of forming a team that can lead us to victory."

Next he was asked about CNN's reporting:

"We're in talks right now. Everything up to legal counsel, to take CNN to task for what they have done to us. We are going after them. We are going to go after them for what they've done."

Call me old-fashioned, but I can confidently say that if a self-proclaimed nazi were the D nominee in a statewide race, I wouldn't post memes defending them.

This is the ultimate nba fan message board including a long history etc. Royce White was a certified villain on this board. A dead beat dad and con artist. That’s who they are nominating these days. Any real rockets fan with ANY real balls would call that out for the embarrassment it is.

You can’t get these mofo’s to give one inch though and admit absolutely anything. It’s tote the party line no matter the circumstance.

Again though there is a reason why one of two parties has one a single popular vote since the 1980’s.

I would hope that such a candidate would never make it through the primaries.

I know a few Minnesota Republicans who are embarrassed by the nomination. The MN Republican Party though has been taking over by MAGA and was taken over by the TEA Party before that. In 2010 there was already a major split in the party when Tom Horner a former influential Republican ran under the Independence Party for governor. Many older Republicans including former governors and US senators endorsed him this led to the same type of split we are seeing with national republicans who are backing Harris.
