    Rock It Man

With his big press conference just an hour away, Tracy McGrady was already anxious. Like a kid lying in bed wide awake on Christmas Eve, he was feeling the jitters of anticipation. Then he looked out of his window.

"I was styaing at a hotel that was right downtown and I could look out and see the Toyota Center," he says, recalling the morning of June 30, the day he was officially introduced as a Rocket. "It was raining in Houston that day and I was looking out there, and I see fans standing out in the rain waiting for the doors to open. That's love right there, man. Respect. It doesn't even get any better than that."

"It choked me up. It really did. When you see things like that you can't help but get emotional, because if it wasn't for the fans, we wouldn't be who we are. We've just got to give that back."

On the need to improve himself:

I know I could have produced better [in Orlando], not only for myself, but for my teammates," he confesses. "I was the captain of the team and there were times, because we went on that losing streak, that it got to the point where it was too much for me. There was just a bunch of weight on my shoulders that I got tired of carrying."

"It was just frustrating to me and I kind of let that carry over into my play, where some nights I would be going to games and I knew I was going to lose. That's just the feeling that I had at that point in time because we'd lost so many games. So I really didn't have that passion and that love like I usually have."

    On joining the Rockets:

"I'm just looking to take the next step. When I came to Orlando, it was a coming-out parrty. You know, I elevated my game to another level, became one of the top players in this league. I think this time, expectations have to be even higher. I've got to get my team out of the first round. We've just got to be championship contenders, you know, until I'm done playing. It's got to be like that."

I hope his quotes are like that all year, and for years and years. (They even sounded honest and sincere.)
