This has to be one of the most frustrating games I’ve watched in awhile. Scott hasn’t pitched well in several months as well.
Maybe they had no choice but Scott is not a high leverage guy. Down by 1 in the 8th against their best hitters and it quickly got worse. We all knew it would when we saw it was him pitching
ferguson was huffin and puffin yesterday barely retiring 1 dude let's see if he could just get 1 out.
west coast games are terrible. it's even worse when they lose these games. during covid years, it was somewhat tolerable because i was working from home.
Baseball Prospectus on Caleb Ferguson: Ferguson’s season was like a black-and-white animated Tim Burton film. His elbow came back from the dead (Tommy John surgery), and everything seemed wonderful on the surface (1.82 ERA). But deep within, something indefinable was…off. His curveball, which hadn’t been seen since 2019, reappeared from the great beyond along with his elbow and completely smothered his cutter, which he didn’t throw even once in 2022. The walk and strikeout rates both jumped in the wrong direction. An extremely fortunate 3.4% home run-to-fly-ball rate papered over some of the problems, and his fastball still has a good shape that prevents too much loud contact. Unless he can tame his wildness and re-locate a consistent secondary offering, though, the dead shall rise and reclaim the Earth! Or… he’ll just be a boring, average reliever instead of a pretty good one. Same thing.
For all you b****ing about Scott in there…who did you want? Keep in mind Pena, Heyward and Meyers are due up in the 9th against their closer. Neris pitched the last two games so he’s not available. Ort as well. You guys wanted to bring Abreu in here? Thankfully, you arm chair managers aren’t in charge.
