It's so pathetic how the media is giving this nut everything he was wanting. The guy is literally crazy, and CNN this morning was doing this sane washing story on him, elevating him as if he was his important operative working on behalf of various governments as a sleeper agent.

In reality the guy was a freaking nut, and it's insane that the government/TSA even allowed someone who has his criminal history to leave the country. I see no evidence that he has any sort of real connection to the war in Ukraine other than the fact that he was able to travel there and hung out in Kyiv to try and enlist which they did not let him because it was obvious he was unwell in the head.

-The first assassination attempt was the equivalent of a school shooter profile. I was bullied in high school or ignored. Now the world gets to see how powerful and important I am by killing people, and a president so people will know my name.

-The second attempt (if you want to call it that) is the equivalent of a nutcase who has fantasies of being Jason Bourne or something and just wanted the attention that the media is giving him 100% more than he could have ever dreamed. He had no problem getting caught so he could keep his name in the papers for a few more days, and have important people ask him questions so he can feel important.

    ....

The fact is this continues to be an issue with Secret Service. Yes it's great that they found this guy before he did something stupid, but they also need to do a better job of planning out areas that Trump and Kamala will be, and having better prevention perimeter sweeps.

While I'm surprised the attempts didn't start earlier, I think this is a bad trend. Assassinating Trump will not make things better.

Constant assignation attempts are a sign of weakness I won't tolerate in my political candidates.

It does make a good case for banning people from walking around legally with AK-47s in public. I mean, anyone within 400 yards of them could worry about an assassination attempt. We regular Americans don't have secret service protection and can't ban the guns like politicians do where they rally and gather in public.

No they don't he isn't the President, he has a security detail, that's all......the rest of what you are mentioning is all on him, Trump should have his own security detail - and it is paid for by the RNC.....it isn't the countries job to protect him - outside of the SS detail....

If he is worried about someone taking a pot shot at him - he should work towards lessoning his rhetoric and stop inciting violence.

    And that's an understatement.

It's a mistake to treat these would-be assassins like they are making a rational calculation about the greater good. They are disturbed individuals who wanted the notoriety of having killed a really famous person, and Trump is probably the most famous and polarizing figure on the planet right now.

I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.

As a purely academic point, I disagree.

I think if Trump were dead, it would force the GOP to deal with their MAGAt problem instead of relying on the democrats to fix it for them, they have been waiting on Trump to go to prison or to die, they just figure it will work itself out and it hasn't yet....

So, if Trump were killed ( no one is advocating for this ) then I think it speeds up the inevitable process of a GOP reset.....and our country healing over all the evil rhetoric and racist hate mongering he does.

Agreed. Trump is going to lose and then hopefully go to jail. No need to incite more crazies with assassination attempts.

If it became trendy to shoot little kids I have no idea why it wouldn’t be trendy to shoot politicians and celebrities.

People spend a lot of time trying to politicize every shooter but I don’t know how much that solves. It’s not like a random lunatic wearing a red or blue flag means it’s supported by and is the responsibility of the party/voters.

At the same time, the way gun accessibility and public mental healthcare programs are treated between the two parties can’t be ignored.

It would turn him into a martyr and further radicalize the wingnuts in the Republican party who will hold the Democratic party and MSM responsible for it.

Only a sicko like Trump, who incites violence and never condemns violence by white supremacists and the like, or violence against those he could care less about can spew this.....

Trump accused his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden of taking "politics in our Country to a whole new level of Hatred." He said their rhetoric is responsible for threats and violence against him, even though they routinely denounce political violence and did so on Sunday.

Trump's most powerful ally, billionaire Elon Musk, wondered in a tweet why "no one is even trying to assassinate" Biden and Harris — a post that Musk later said was a joke and deleted.

The difference between Trump and Biden/Harris is that only Biden and Harris have openly pleaded to stop all violence, including political violence. Trump is different, depending on the perpetrator.

I disagree, did Saddam Husein get turned into a martyr? Did Osama Bin Laden?

I don't think so, most people are reasonable in the end, it is hard to leave a cult, but when the head of the cult is cut off it forces reality. Sure some might revolt, but you come down hard on them, and the rest will get in line.

Dude. His supporters wore maxi pads on their ears for weeks. You don't think an assassination would make him a martyr?

    He'd be a total martyr.

The man attracts conspiracy theorists like QAnon and white nationalist groups wholly distrustful of the government.

It would not be pretty, and it's 100% unAmerican to silence political opponents through violence or unethical means.

We had a bunch of political assassinations in the 70s that sent us back decades with the violence and chaos that ensued.

If we want better, we should take some lessons from our past.
