Max has unveiled the trailer for the long-delayed film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 supernatural horror novel “Salem’s Lot”. The feature will premiere on Max on October 3rd. Haunted by an incident from his childhood, author Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. He soon discovers the town is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire and his loyal servant. The film is reportedly set in 1975, the same year in which King’s novel was published. Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, and Pilou Asbaek also star. Veteran horror scribe Gary Dauberman wrote and directed the movie which James Wan produced. It marks the third official adaptation of King’s second novel following Tobe Hooper’s TV mini-series in 1979 and the Rob Lowe-led mini-series in 2004. Maybe. Vampires are almost like Frankenstein, The Mummy, or evil kids to me at this point -- kind of played out. I will definitely watch it the first chance I get,, don't get me wrong. Having low expectations never hurt me either.
From the amaizing writing of a drunk Irishman to Anne Rice to Alaskan bloodsuckers, I love me some vampires. This looks amazing.
You know, I'm a huge fan of about 75% of his stuff. This I have not read (and will fix soon). I did enjoy the original movie way back when though. My top 5, FWIW: It Misery 11/22/63 The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon The Shining
The two tv mini-series adaptations were straight trash. It IS one of Uncle Steve's best and I've got high hopes for this. Fingers crossed.
Honestly, King's endorsement is a red flag. For whatever reason, he seems to like the abysmal adaptations of his work and famously hates Kubricks, The Shining. That said, this look right up my alley.
He has good reason, IMHO: In Kubrick's film Nicholson played Jack Torrance as a near-crazy ******* right from the opening. In King's book, the hotel was clearly behind Torrance's slide.
Love the book. Have read it 3 times over a 30 year period (**** that makes me feel old). High hopes for this. It seems like a story that could translate onto the screen. Although they are 0 for 2 so far.
Agree, my most unpopular opinion: * Love The Shining movie, but... * Love it despite Nicholson's f'ed up performance. I've always thought it would be more terrifying, by far, if he could have been even slightly more normal for the first... I dunno... 20 minutes? LOL
Yes! I feel the same way about poor Shelley Duvall's acting (or lack of, if the stories about her being verbally abused by Kubrick on set are true).
