I wonder if Verlander goes in HOF an Astro or Tiger. I know HOF committee has final say but it will be interesting how this plays out.

Not sure this matters as much anymore... he's had tremendous runs with both organizations.

Sorta like Drexler and the the Blazers. Both franchises will always hold him near/dear no matter where the accolades happened or where the majority of the counting stats happened.

It does appear that in all of pro sports... the last franchise that you spent a prolonged time with ends up being the one you continue to play a role in post-career (if said player has any interest in that).

And as long as a previous organization doesn't do something cool for you like making AA and AAA teams you own part of their organization and selling a billion of your hotdogs then go chasing you back to the that late career team by firing your son.

Verlander has been an Astro since August 2017, with the exception of his few month stint with the Mets. But it also seems he’s been injured for large chunks of the time. Though he’s been a part of a 7 straight AL champions appearances, and being the starter for 4 World Series starting rotations with the Astros, and winning two titles. While only reaching one World Series with the Tigers.

But he did pitch for with the Tigers for 12 season, which isn’t a small feat.

At this point it would be interesting, because if the Astros don’t bring him back next season he could foreseeably play another 3 years on a mid tier team as an attraction to reach the career milestones he’s seeking.

I would hope the Astros and him have built a relationship that would be mutually beneficial, so he could finish his career with Houston. Hopefully he get back on his groove so he can finish the regular season strong and be ready to be a workhorse in the playoffs.

His next 3 starts, and potential post season will go a long way toward what offers he gets next year.

I would like to see them work something out with a mid-level salary + IP incentives and bonuses w/ vesting player options for years 2 and 3.

    Say:

1 yr $12M + 3M for every 25 ip after 50 and a vesting option at the same amounts if he gets to 125.

    0-74 IP = $12M
    75-99 IP= $15M
    100-124 IP = $18M
    125-149 IP = $21M + option vested.
    150-174 OP = $24M

He was poor last year too, at the end, just didn't have the same effect....this has been coming on for more than a year.

I just watched the highlights from the last game and it does look like time has come for JV. He should be a first ballot HOF and it will be a huge blow to his pride and career if he's left off. Even if his arm isn't there he still has value as his knowledge can help the other pitchers.

I'm wondering if the Stros can use him like an opener and just have him start for two innings.

He has said he hates the idea of employing openers, but that is the only way I can see that he could be useful this post season.
