Okay... so you would be totally okay if the game was tied and Astros only needed one run to win ?!! If not, saying two runs is irrelevant. It's probably 50/50 at worst, but I understand you're saying anything to make your point. The fielder must field it cleanly (something Neris couldn't do) and make a good enough throw, that's in time, and Altuve has to be tagged. ____ Would be interesting to hear other poster's opinions. a) yes, bunt Yordan with Altuve on 3rd b) no, don't do it c) no, don't do it... because it would be INSANE You're going with "C", and it's silly because it's an exaggeration. I'm not saying bunt Yordan with a runner on 2nd. ____ Altuve could've possibly had an inside-the-park too, but a triple should've been the absolute minimum. That ball had plenty hangtime and bounced 50' off the wall with the fielder having to sprint to grab it -- but since Altuve was dogging it, he shot his team in the foot, thus another pathetic loss with all the leverage being used. Thankfully, Seattle is mediocre.
It's so '24 Astros. Player slumps = he stays healthy Player gets hot = he gets injured or Good player DNPs most, if not all, of the season Thankfully we're still 95% chance to make the playoffs. There's a good chance Astros flip the switch after getting there.
I can’t believe you are seriously sitting here arguing with me that Yordan should bunt with a man on 3rd with no outs down one in the bottom of the 12th. That’s insane. As for the ball Altuve hit, yes he should have been on third but there is no way he is scoring on that. You’re basically saying he straight up walked to first base if you think he’s scoring there.
A fly ball is as good as a bunt in that scenario. Is Yordan more likely to hit a fly ball or get a bunt down?
It doesn’t matter guys. We lost like a buncha lolligaggin’ losers last night. We had like 15 chances to win and pissed away every single one.
Is he more likely to K or get down a bunt? Is he more likely to advance a runner with a bunt, or not advance the runner by doing anything else (flyball too shallow, bad groundout, lineout, popup) ?? If he doesn't get the bunt down first two strikes, he swings. Dusty's rhetoric last season says "hi". Altuve should've basically been on 2nd when the ball hit the wall. The fact he *only* doubled was a slap to face of Houston fans. Luckily, Seattle is just mediocre.
It’s not even just getting the bunt down…you can’t just bunt it right back to the pitcher and hope they pull a Neris. But then again, it would be so stupid that maybe the pitcher/defense would be so shocked that they fumble it. Edit: To answer your question though, he’s got a 15% K rate so yes he’s way less likely to K there then get a bunt down that scores the runner on a safety squeeze. The As were successful twice but both times could/should have ended poorly. Neris and/or Diaz just have to make a play that wasn’t that difficult. And that’s with two guys bunting who have probably done it more often than Yordan has in their lifetime.
Well, you answered one of the questions. When can you ever just bunt right back to the pitcher? Only if they pull a Neris, I guess. I can understand why people would want Yordan swinging. I just don't believe it's insane to have him bunting (or not bunting). He's also having his worst season for SFs, btw. Agree to disagree
