The video is clear cut, there isn't anything to debate I don't like Tyreek as a person, but he never raised his voice, never swore, wasn't disrespectful. The one cop seemed to escalate the situation the most. Particularly when Tyreek was already out of the car. He was being 100% compliant and the small dick cop felt the need to jump him and wrap his arm around Tyreek's neck. The cops were in absolutely no "danger" in that situation, it was done only to look like a "big man" who had a broken ego. A cop's job is NEVER to escalate a situation, if you remain calm, so does everyone else. Typical cop power trip with an inferiority complex. Additionally, Calais Campbell was unquestionably respectful to everyone involved and was still detained. Absolutely outrageous.
You missed the point. If you take 100 people, there is a bell curve. You can ALWAYS expect a certain % of people will respond in unexpected ways. That is a known fact and it can be anticipated. Because it can be anticipated, LEO can be trained on how to deal with that situation. And if fact, they are PAID to sit in classes to deal with this stuff. Again, they are paid to sit in class and take trainings. You were never paid to sit in a course on how to respond to police. Sure, there is common sense but as the cliche goes, common sense isn't that common. So again, since LEO are paid and trained ...the expectation is they should know how to handle the inevitable situation of dealing with non-compliant individuals. That is their job. Said another way, it costs us taxpayer money to clean up the mess when, inevitably, LEO mishandle a situation and people/property gets damaged because the police let their ego get away and escalated a situation, rather than de-escalating. SHOULD he have responded better? Sure. Could the LEO handled it better, as the professional? Absolutely. As the old saying goes, two things can be true at the same time. That officer could have handled it better and now the police department has to spend it's resources to clean up a mess and embarrassment of mishandling this.
"Being respectful" is required because it allows a process to continue. A person in a court room constantly screaming over whoever is talking at the time means they can't continue a trial. But judges also abuse authority where the slightest perception of disrespect that doesn't interfere with the trial at hand is met with severe ramifications like contempt charges. In this case a individual being difficult in a traffic stop for speeding, a officer can easily if they don't have ego issues deseseclate and just state their intention through the window instead of going SWAT mode within one second. Tyreke Hill has an ego. But he doesn't get paid to suppress his ego and deseseclate confrontational situations with the public. The cop is trained for that. The "don't touch my window" line from Hill was the final line for the officer's ego. They can't handle when a civilian tells them not do something to them. It's an instant trigger that has nothing to do with being suspicious. It has to do with ego. Ask yourself if the cop truly was forcing him out of the car because he was suspicious of other criminal behavior or because his feelings got hurt. If it's the later, then that is unbecoming of the expectations we give to paid professional policing. This is where basic emotional maturity comes in which the officer didn't have. Our taxes aren't paying Tyekre Hill to be trained to be professional desecelators. They are paying the cop to be one. We do live in a society... A society with expectations for paid tax payer services.
Nope, the man wasn't complying, they had to force him to comply. They were still nice enough not to beat his ass, he just kissed the ground little bit
Support the blue that is such a blanket statement. I don’t support any blue who uses excessive force or any blue who wants to power trip. Neither should you.
There are few bad apples for sure, those need to be dealt with accordingly. Which for the most part is the case, but because of those few bad apples ya want to paint 'em all with the same brush, like they're some maniacs with a gun. No sir
The problem a lot of them are not dealt with. The police union protects them. Helps bad cops get rehired sometimes only counties over from the departments that fire them.
A few bad applies? No it's a pretty embedded culture issue of machismo. Also law enforcement is very politically ideologically driven hence why you'll never find a group of cops in some leftist extremist group but will find many in right wing militias type groups in their off duty time. Hence why almost all the time in protests, the cops side with the right wing agitator group. The hilarious part is when it's the few times the cops start arresting right wing agitators, they literally tell the cops "I was on your side before but after this!" Or "we are rooting for you! Why are you arresting us?". It's a mask off moment. And you can generally tell the overall sentiments in regards to things like bigotry of minority groups by who the respective police union president is for each department as they are voted in by their peers. And if you know anything about police union presidents, they have a long history of saying unhinged bigoted things like the Chicago police union president literally saying that Muslims are all savages that deserve a bullet. And his fellow officers rooted for him when the media scrutinized him.
The actual phrase is "A few bad apples, spoil the bunch" ..... Your use of the metaphor also doesn't apply to a completely broken institution.
After watching the video my main impression is to be more impressed by what he said after the game, wanting to work with local authorities to try to do something positive together. That's a lot different that what some would say, including some of you if you'd been roughed up by the PoPo. I've mentioned before, but late one night (coming home from a KTRU shift), I had a Houston PO completely inappropriately draw a gun on me, with panic in his eyes. If I'd had dark skin? Yeah, we'll never know. They have one of the world's hardest jobs I think. But I wasn't talking about working with them to make something positive after that incident, haha.
Nope none of that, everyone is treated the same. You will respect 'em, if not willingly then forcefully, which is totally fine by me. Nation without a strong police force is not a nation. If it were up to me I would give 'em more authority
Good LORD......you honestly believe everyone is treated the same? Yikes..............and by the way, respect is a 2-way street, these cops did not deescalate at all. I support GOOD cops, the ones who think the shield makes them impervious to treating others as human beings are trash and will call them out every time. The cop in the video needs training, he is a 25-year vet and was put on leave. Your blind faith in people who do the wrong thing is scary, from cops to politicians, but hey, you do you
I'm not sure if its worth wasting anymore time wondering if I'm replying to someone who actually believes what they type or types what they believe will illicit reactions. If you are a troll, you need to be more believable.
It's real golden that conservatives will scream at the top of their lungs about being law abiding citizens in full support of 2A but then be totally okay with a cop violating an individual's rights by using excessive force against them. This whole bullshit of "just be a compliant" is a load of garbage. Sure, Tyreek could of handled the situation a whole lot better but at the same time the cop also needs to be trained to tone down his emotions and not get his ego hurt over someone not fully complying immediately. Florida laws do indicate that windows have to be rolled down, so Tyreek should have complied with the lawful order, but I don't see how the cop needed to escalate the situation to the level that he did. He did ask several times to roll down his window, Tyreek didn't comply so when he told him to exit the car, he didn't give him enough time to get out. I've seen so many cop videos in the last few years and usually people are given a reasonable amount of time to comply. It appeared Tyreek was going to exit the car but at that point the cops anger had already reached Hank Hill levels and he was ready to use excessive force to prove a point. Individuals like these should not be given a job until they can go through months of training of how to deal with your anger. You are a cop, a public servant, you are going to deal with personalities all across the spectrum and this does not give you a pass to act in the manner that some cops act. TDLR, Tyreek should of complied to rolling down the window. This is Florida law, vote the politicians out of you don't like it. Tyreek was going to comply with getting out of the car, so cop should have not escalated the situation to use excessive force.
