    Pretty good review:

One thing I found interesting is that the audio doesn't really "leak out" much to the people around you - very much in contrast to the Apple Vision Pro.

I like the simple integration with Spotify.

I don't want to ban books.

The whole "book banning" stuff is a huge lie by leftists.

No books are "banned". Some are removed from children's libraries.

You can buy all the gay p*rn you want.

Governor Ron DeSantis Debunks Book Ban Hoax, Calls on Florida Legislature to Amend the Law to Prevent Abuse from Activists

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis continued to debunk the false narrative that the state of Florida bans books. Florida does not ban books, instead, the state has empowered parents to object to obscene material in the classroom. Still, some have abused this process to object to items including books about Johnny Appleseed, The Giver and even the Bible. Governor DeSantis is calling on the Legislature to finetune this process to prevent people from taking advantage of Florida law that is designed solely to remove inappropriate material from the classroom.

“Over the past year, parents have used their rights to object to pornographic and sexually explicit material they found in school libraries,” said Governor DeSantis. “We also know that some people have abused this process in an effort to score cheap political points. Today, I am calling on the Legislature to make necessary adjustments so that we can prevent abuses in the objection process and ensure that districts aren’t overwhelmed by frivolous challenges.”

To further streamline the parental objection process and shield districts from activism, Governor DeSantis:

    • Directed the Department of Education to take the appropriate action to prohibit bad actors in school leadership positions from intentionally depriving students of an education by politicizing the book review process.
    • Called on the legislature to enact policy that prioritizes parents’ voices by limiting bad-faith objections made by those who don’t have children learning in Florida.
“As the Education State, our focus is on academic excellence, not indoctrination,” said Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I am proud to stand with Governor DeSantis to ensure that Florida’s academic landscape remains rigorous and comprehensive and provides students with age-appropriate materials to help them achieve the highest academic success.”

See below for a Myth/Fact on the book review and objection process in Florida:

    Myth #1

Myth 1: The Florida Department of Education bans books.

Truth 1: The Department does not ban books. Each school district is responsible for ensuring all the materials in their schools adhere to state education standards.

    Myth #2

Myth 2: Every book written is age-appropriate and has literary value for children.

Truth 2: This is a lie. Books with pornographic and sexually explicit material do not belong in school libraries accessible to children.

    Myth #3

Myth 3: Dictionaries and thesauruses have been removed from classrooms.

Truth 3: This is ridiculous. No district in Florida has removed any dictionaries or thesauruses.

After the 2023 legislative session, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill 1069, which continued to strengthen Florida’s commitment to parental rights in education. The bill further outlined the process districts must create for parents and residents to have the ability to object to inappropriate materials in Florida classrooms. This process continues to give parents a voice and keeps our children from having access to sexually explicit materials.

The previous year, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill 1467 that requires school districts to provide transparency in the selection of instructional materials, including library and reading materials. This process protects children from indoctrination and gives parents the ability to see the materials their children have access to at school.

So do you think we should just leave such new technologies unregulated? Do you think there is no chance of negative outcomes or harmful uses of such technology?

One question before I address that article... Do you honestly believe that article proves there are no banned books?

What regulation do you propose (that doesn't already apply)?

I would strengthen regulation regarding use of the glasses as recording instruments. While Meta glasses may have a bright LED light indicating they are recording as stated other products may not have such features. I would start with mandating that has to be a feature or some other indication that they are recording.

I would also see other regulation that makes it very obvious that glasses are smart glasses and not just regular glasses. This would be similar to regulation that things like air soft guns aren’t actual firearms.

Thanks. And I noticed even in the video that the author noted that this can be used to violate privacy but he just says that privacy is being constantly violated anyway by the preponderance of cameras so why not just record people anyway and do so in a way they aren’t aware of this way. These type of glasses though go further in that you could pass them off as regular glasses and record people even in private.

He also notes that various states and countries have different laws on privacy and hiding that you’re recording someone is legal in many jurisdictions.

So I just bought a second pair with the Transitions lense (so I could use this indoors also).

But - and there we are with why it might be good that this thread is in this sub-forum lol, if the previous discussion didn't already show that - it pisses me off how WOKE the AI is.

I asked "Hey Meta, what do you see in the mirror" and it would initially say, a man wearing glasses. Then I asked "how old is the person" and it would say "in his 40s or 50s". But ever since then, I haven't been able to get it to answer ANY question about the appearance...not even the color of the glasses themselves.

Interestingly, this is actually an accessibility issue for vision-impaired people who would like Meta to describe things for them. By refusing to do that, it values vague privacy concerns (that must be a first for Zuck lol) over the needs of disabled people.

    Interesting article about that here:
