Geno and CD passing so close together is just so sad to hear and brings back a flood of fond memories. Hope he passed peacefully.
I'm so sorry to hear this. He always seemed like such a nice guy. Just a massive part of the Rockets organization and history. RIP
The guy who turned down the job to give it to Rudy T. Amazing coach, who helped Dream learn the hook..... DD
Carroll Dawson is about as Houston Rockets as it gets! What a legend. That man had a helluva impact on this organization.
Carroll you obviously are not discussed enough in Rockets history. You are the kind of necessary and silent leader that allows others and organizations to truly shine.
In before someone questions CD's efficiency stats....but in all seriousness - RIP to a real Rockets Legend. He really was a mainstay in the org for quite some time and helped shape the teams that I grew to love. Thank you, Mr Dawson!
Rockets history would look a whole lot different without him. RIP. Just found this nugget: When Carroll Dawson joined the Houston Rockets as an assistant coach in 1980, he crossed paths with the legendary Moses Malone. Back then, Big Mo held the status as the reigning MVP, yet Dawson noticed a weakness in his game and advised the superstar, “Moses, we need to work on your passing.” However, the center didn't seem so eager about that idea, playfully throwing "the worst passes I'd ever seen," as recalled by Dawson. Malone then blurted out, "CD, they ain't paying me to pass."
Great man. His memory and impact will remain in the halls of the Toyota Center for generations to enjoy. Thanks for your hard work and giving the fans something to get excited about each year you were here.
