This game is everything short of perfect. I was planning on giving Live a shot, but I ain't gonna bother now. Wow.

    No Hakeem though, unfortunately...

Excatly! I am 3-2 with my Rockets franchise with both loses coming i Detroit and an a**-whoopin by SacTown. I absolutely love this game and can't put the controller down.

I like the default camera, but I have always kind of liked the broadcast camera in any game I have had before. But, I think it really brings the crowd into it.

I think the only compaints I have are a) seems to be not enough spacing in the half court. b) the force-field causes my player with the ball to do some strange things sometimes or goes where I didn't want him to initially and c) NO HAKEEM!!!

These are very minor and, by no means, take away from the game. No game is perfect, but this is as close as I have ever seen.

Is there a possibility Hakeem has asked game companies not to use him or something?

His exclusion from video games recently is just pissing me off something awful.

For one thing, hakeem was not in 2k4. Ok so i played both games before i went and bought it. I have never bought live b4 in my life since the 2k series came out, but i did this year. Its not because espn is a bad game. It still has better graphics and the players move better in espn than live. But in the end, the things that i hated about espn 2k4(the crappy D mainly) is still there. I dont know...i put it on superstar level and just kept on tearing up detroit with just using TMAC.

Maybe its because i played 2k4 so much that the game is still the same and not a challenge anymore. That is why i got Live. They have better defense and you actually ahve to use strategy and cant run a one man show with your all-star. So next year, i will try them both again and whichever one seems the harder game to score in and use more strategy is the one i will get. Because being able to drop 90 pts w/ TMAC or Nowitzki in a 5 min/qtr game on the superstar level on ESPN is only exciting the first couple of times. So in the end i chose Live.

This is just an opinion from someone who was always biased towards ESPN every year. Because up until last year Live couldnt even come close to being a good game. But this year, besides the ice skating in Live, it does have better defense and is a more realistic game.

No he wasn't. The last version he was in was 2003. That's why I had the feeling he wouldn't be in this year's version either...

Seriously guys, I'm shocked at the number of complaints people have. I mean, I actually kinda liked last year's ESPN, which apparently is uncommon, but the big issues with it were that there were too many ways to abuse the game. Three I can think of right off the top of my head: the pumpfake was UNSTOPPABLE (it worked like 80% of the time as long as you had a decent shooter), the hook move from the baseline was almost equally so, and the diving steal move had me getting multiple players with 7, 8, 9 steals in 32-minute games. All of those are gone now, and from what I've seen there is no way to score 99% of the time anymore. My games have actually been close... I used to blow the computer away on superstar like 140-65 playing as some crap team like Chicago against an all-star team. Now I can play Rockets vs. Heat and actually be down in the 4th occasionally... and I'm still on pro!

I think what I love most about this game is the variety of shots you end up getting. Both last year's Live and last year's ESPN felt like there were only two ways to score: 3-pointers and driving for the dunk/layup. It got so mechanical after awhile. In this game, just like real life, you try to get baskets in close, but it's tough to avoid a LOT of your scoring occuring from mid-range.

On kind of a side note, I really don't understand all the hate for isomotion... I mean, it seems simple and intuitive to me. You press the stick right, your guy dribbles right. Hold turbo and it becomes a spin instead of a crossover. Press it back, your guy pulls back and gets some space for a jumper. In the air you can freakin' direct which direction you want your layup to go. What's so horrible about this system?

you get charged for a foul, when all you want is a crossover.

really depends on how you do it....i do it all the time and don't get a charge of course if the defender is right in front of you and you do it your going to be called with a charge.

Im in my Franchise right now im 5-1 with the Rockets

    T-Mac - 21.5 ppg 1.5 rpg 3.3 apg 2.2 spg

It has a lack of CPU D? That's strange. Everywhere I've read about it, people really compliment the defense of the CPU. From the few videos I've seen, it looks pretty nice. I saw one with the CPU quickly double teaming Vince Carter while he was hot. Maybe you could mess with the sliders a bit to fix it if you seem to be scoring from one type of shot all the time.

I haven't played Live this year, but liked I've said about last year, that game was crazy easy. (if that is a phrase). The pro hop as well as other moves were WAY too easy to abuse. In fact, I was worried that the hop that ESPN uses this year would be abused, but from what I hear, the defense is really good at stripping it from you or causing you to miss a shot. That wasn't the case in the last Live where I could just get TMac, use the pro hop and basically be going in for a layup.

Thanks for the ratings! Wow, the bench looks terrible! lol ;)
I think Taylor at 69 is ridiculous! Is Howard at 78 really 9 points better than Taylor? I think Taylor should be around 75 or 76. Spoon should be around 68. Lue should probably be around 72. How is Ward rated higher than Lue? Boki, Padgett, Gaines and Mutombo look about right. I might bump Mutombo up to 70 though.

I think the reality is that they did a GOOD job with each of the teams top 5 players and such but then just kind of left everyone else alone from last year's game.

    Thanks again for the ratings!

Wow, I started 3-2 also, getting beat by the same teams. I did get my revenge the second time against the Sacs though, beating them in overtime. I love how players actually behave as they do in life, i.e. Doug Christie being a defensive pain in the ass, Kobe hogging the ball, even Chris Webber missing clutch shots, etc.

Anyway, got the game at about 7PM last night, and played til the wee morning. It was hard to get used to because I played Live all last year, and it seemed slow, but after actually learning how to play, I can't stop. Except for the weird, minor gliches the 2K series always have (mostly involve collision detection) it beats this years iteration of Live by many lengths.

As for how it stacks up against other 2K games, it blows them all away. Even 2K2 for Dreamcast. You can't find little tricks that always work like you could in those games. You really do have to call plays, recognize your opponents strategy, and counter with whichever strategy works against it.

i played this game for about an hr and noticed some annoying problems which you guys may not notice since you guys usually use the Rockets. I played against the Rockets using the Spurs and after one half (10 min quarters), Yao only took 2 shots and made 1, scoring two points. Half of the shots went to Tmac, which is fine, but the rest went to Sura and others. That's just not realistic. I dunno, shot selections has always been one of the downfalls in video basketball games it seems.

Lue actually isn't too far off from where he should be, he just needs his 3-pointers bumped up a bit.

Mo however definitely needs a little more love. Think I moved his mid-range shot from like 67 to 72, post offense from 75 to 80, handles from 60 to 65 and speed from 65 to 70. I think he ended at about a 72 overall.

adeel, I've played three games so far, two with the Rockets and one with my custom team (Adelaide pride, baby! :D), and I've been called for a total of two charges, probably because I went through the growing pains last year. EVERYBODY gets ridiculous numbers of charges called against them at first, you just have to learn when to use it.

What difficulty did you have it set on? I have read that the higher the level set, the more the computer will use guys like Yao and Shaq down low. I haven't got good enough to bump it up there to see though. I did play the Heat on Pro and they didn't go to Shaq a whole lot the first half, but the second half, especially the 4th qtr., the dumped it down to him EVERY play. I just hate being dunked on every time down the court I have to tell ya!

Has anyone running a franchise made any trades yet. especially those using the Rockets?

I think the trade AI is pretty good and I certainly like that they instituted the 15% salary rule with most teams being over the cap. I needed a shooter coming off the bench to backup TMac and JJ and, unfortunately, Boki is not rated very good to fill the void. Sura came to my office complaining aout starting as I has Ward in that spot at first So, I traded Ward and a pick to Boston for Welsch. Sura is my starting PG and I know have a guy that can platoon between SG & SF and hit a few outside shots off a double team.

I played at the All Star level, which is the 2nd hardest level I believe. To me CPU shot selection is extremely important in making a game realistic, so hopefully I'll have a better experience playing it today.

Dumb question here. Ok, i'm use to playing defense in 2K3 where you have to press L1 to lock up in a defensive stance with your opponent and allowing you to strife left or right to prevent them from blowing pass you. How the heck do you get in a defensive stance in 2K5? When I'm in front of my opponent, my guy just stand there and not crouching or putting pressure on them. They would just blow by me everytime, but when I'm on offense the CPU play tight defense on me.
Am I doin something wrong here?
