After Charlie and Garcia did their thing, I'm a big fan of double starters in the playoffs. It keeps our BP fresh
FWIW I think they have a very good chance to end up w/ the #2. 4 behind Cleveland and end the season vs them in a 3 gamer. It was just better for that post to include the WC round.
He’s had issues in the WS, but he has been nails in the Divison Series and LCS overall. He’s pitched 226 innings in the post season with a 17-12 record, 3.48 ERA, 244 Ks, 74 BB, and a 1.12 WHIP. That’s basically a season that would get you top 10 Cy Young consideration against the best competition each year.
He was also the best Astros starting pitcher in the 2017 World Series… by far. The WS numbers are magnified by some early career failures with Detroit.
Could JV pull a John Smoltz like he did to end I think 2001? Wouldn't have to be permanent, but just for this season. Plus given we all have been on pins and needles at times watching Aubreu, Pressley and Hader.
I know, not a dig at you. Just not having a planned backup from Framber is risky in my opinion. Hope he has turned a corner.
Bottom line is that could happen with any pitcher, any time. That's baseball. Framber is the least likely Astros starter for that to happen to, IMO. But to address the issue, the plan would be to bring in Scott to get out of the inning. Then if there are 4 or fewer innings left, use the bullpen as normal. If 5 or more innings remain, then consider Kikuchi, Blanco, or Brown throwing 3+ innings based in who is rested. Then adjust who piggy backs w/ Verlander and Arrighetti or ask one or both of them to give you 5 innings.
