Season one was middling but season 2 looks like a big improvement based on trailer alone, much like Wheel of Time S2 was better. Mildly optimistic
Read bad reviews on mainstream rags. If female critics are bored, who is this show for? Untapped audience found.
I popped in and out of the first three episodes. What I saw was interesting enough to watch. Sauron appears to be an outcast. I didn't know that. Gadrielle is to blame for this mess. I didn't know that. The Elvens are trying to survive, and the rings saved their tree. I didn't know that. So I'm learning more about the world origins. And that's enough for me. The visuals are on par with the movies at times. Granted, I only popped in and out, but it worked for me.
Wheel of Time truly seems to win out so far when compared to House of the Dragon which is almost unanimously disliked and now LotR season 2 off to a rocky start and season reviews not being too positive; similar criticism of season 1.
Haven't watched it so cannot say, but I've seen it being ripped apart, especially some decisions made about a particular battle not being there as well as characterization that do not match the book. Also that some things do not make sense and even George RR Martin has come out and said: “I do not look forward to other posts I need to write,” he adds at the end, “about everything that’s gone wrong with HOUSE OF THE DRAGON… but I need to do that too, and I will. Not today, though.”
Think I'll just wait until the entire season is over and binge-watch the entire thing. That's always more fun to me - a big ol' event where you don't have to wait another week or whatever for the next episode. No cliff-hangers to speak of.
Season 2 was below average, and George RR Martin just made a post about how some changes are screwing up future seasons (maybe being vocal about it to create pressure to get back on track). https://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2024/09/04/beware-the-butterflies/
My wife and I just full out stopped watching it midway thru first season. There seemed to be no point to it really. Fight over crown. Sexual tension with relatives. Add dragons. Rinse, repeat. Maybe it got better, who knows. Regarding this LOTR show... man, i think the casting is awful, and the storylines have so many "holes".... but we still watched it lol
